Pregnancy after ectopic pregnancy

Hi, I had a pregnancy of unknown location back in September 2021 which they then thought was ectopic as I had a positive pregnancy test for 8 weeks. For a few months after I experienced pain on my left side. This stopped in Feb/march this year. Have carried on trying to conceive. I ovulated a few days ago and today have started to get pains on my left side again like I had before. I'm so worried that I could be pregnant and it's happening again and stuck in my tube. Has anyone else experienced anything similar after an ectopic and falling pregnant again? I'm not sure I would experience pain so early on. Many thanks xx

Hi OP. If you are worried you should get checked out, I can't responsibly avoid saying that! But I did have an ectopic and I had pains in the area for a while after - I think it was scarring. I was lucky enough to get pregnant again about 4 months later and the pain in the ectopic site was really bad. They gave me some very early scans (you are entitled to these if you are pregnant again after an ectopic) and found the pregnancy in the right place. I've gone on to have two lovely DC since.

Good luck!

I've just seen you said you only just ovulate. I reckon it's unlikely that you would already have any ectopic symptoms now.

Lozzle22 · 21/05/2021 20:12

@Drowninginwashing thank you so much for replying to me. Yes I ovulated a few days ago so my thinking was if I was pregnant it would be travelling through my tube around now and in my head I'm thinking it's got stuck there and causing the pains. It's the same kind of pains I had throughout the ectopic too. The thought of having wait another ten days before I can do a test is just awful.
So pleased you went on to have two successful pregnancies and that gives me some hope.
Thank you x

I had a PUL that they think was probably ectopic back in August. It naturally resolved. I am now 30w pregnant. Both pregnancies are via IVF so it wasn't to do with tube travel for me. I do remember that the left sided pain I experienced during the ectopic felt quite similar to the ovulation pain that I was used to (though it was a bit more persistent). Hopefully, it is just this, or some scaring causing the pain. If you do turn out to be pregnant as pp says get yourself booked in for an early scan for reassurance if nothing else. Best of luck x

@SpyroC thank you so much for replying and congratulations on your pregnancy. Fingers crossed it is just that. I had a bath last night and that seems to have helped with the pains I was having so we will see. Just hate the waiting. Take care

I had a ruptured ectopic in September, which resulted in surgery, so I understand your worry.
I am now 24/25 weeks pregnant and did have aches and cramps, especially on the side I lost my tube in this pregnancy. They suggested that is due to scar tissue etc.
However, I was told to let them know as soon as o tested positive so they could get me into EPU to do a placement scan. I was seen at 5+4 to rule out ectopic. I would recommend getting in touch with your gp or midwife and explaining due to previous ectopic you need an early referral to epu.

Good luck!

@SillyBry thank you for your reply. Hoping that might be the case if I get a positive test. I haven't had pains like this since the ectopic so just seems a bit of a coincidence but we will see. Congratulations on your pregnancy, that is amazing news. Take care

I had an ectopic and became pregnant about 4/5years later and the pain was bad but I had an early scan and all was fine! I was very surprised.

Lozzle22 · 22/05/2021 08:55

@Sinner10 ah that is good to hear. I'm keeping my fingers crossed if I am pregnant it will be the same for me. Thank you for taking the time to reply

Good luck!

Hi @Lozzle22. Did you get a positive test in the end? I hope you've had the news you were hoping for
Sounds like I'm in a really similar situation to you - I had an ectopic in August and had my right tube removed as part of the emergency surgery. We've been trying to conceive since then but have had lots of cramps where the tube was removed....think this is scarring and nothing to worry about.
Yesterday I had a positive pregnancy test result, and again this morning. I'm still getting the pain on the right hand side but also the odd twinge on the left. I think this is a good sign but I'm not sure. I'll be day 29 of my cycle today so I don't think I can get an early scan done done another week or so...

Lozzle22 · 29/05/2021 07:30

@LondonLadySW wow congratulations thats amazing news. So pleased for you. I'm going to do a test today (my cycle is 35 days roughly) but I really don't feel pregnant in the slightest so I am not holding out much hope to be honest. Both previous pregnancies I've had really sore boobs this early on and I haven't got that or any other symptoms. I've had pains in varying degrees over the last two weeks mainly on the right side (I still have my tube) and lots of lower back pain. I'm feeling really deflated with it all and hope I don't have to deal with these pains every month as they had seemed to have gone off. I will update once I've done a test. Congratulations once again that really is wonderful news 💖

Wanted to comment on this thread as I had a PUL in January. 💐

I had a laparoscopy which showed nothing and eventually an ERPC. Due to the way my levels were rising my consultant thinks it was ectopic and my body tried to miscarry it but just couldn’t completely do it. Sending you love though, it’s a horrible situation to go through. 💖

I actually found out I’m pregnant again about a week ago now, going by LMP I’m 5+1 today. Feel really nervous I will go through the same again and haven’t phoned my GP or the EPU yet because I feel I will need more monitoring and I’ll be really anxious about appointments. Although, I do want to find out everything’s okay 😔 such a difficult situation.

Did you take a test @Lozzle22? X

Lozzle22 · 31/05/2021 15:21

@danielleb97 congratulations on your positive tests that amazing news. I tested on Saturday and it was negative. Im due on tomorrow so expecting it to arrive. I hope your scan will give you the reassurance you need. Good luck and I hope all is well x
