Heartburn

I’m 15wk1day and since last night I have had horrendous heartburn and chest pain from it. Hardly slept because of the pain. I’ve been taking gaviscon today and it has helped slightly but only for short amounts of time then it comes back again. It’s been causing me to be sick too. Wondering if it’s worth seeing the doctor about it tomorrow and seeing if there’s anything different they can do or give me to help. Has anyone else had it bad before and seeked advice from GP?

Hi there
Its awful isn't it. I have suffered through all my preganacies and towards the end, going through bottles of gaviscon!
I never sought gp advice but I know some women who did and were prescribed antacids, so absolutely worth chatting to the gp., especially if it's making you sick.
Good luck. X

Oh man, do I know your pain well. Mine got so bad I was vomiting acid and barely eating to try and avoid it. In the end I went to my GP as gaviscon wasn't touching it and they prescribed me Omeprazole which has been an absolute life saver! Symptoms went within 24 hours. Plan is to take for a month and then review with GP. Safe to take in pregnancy so highly recommend getting it sorted. No need to suffer x

Yogurt is your friend. A lovely Indian doctor found me puking acid and weeing myself whilst I heaved. DH had called him because he was worried I was going to give birth early. Was embarrassing as I was naked over the loo vomiting whilst seeing into DDs potty. He said just eat lots and lots of natural yogurt , that's what they do in India apparently and it worked.

@Twinkie01 thank you for this I am definitely going to try it!
I’m 29 weeks and it’s constant now and I’ve tried every antacid going except doctor prescribed ones so will try the yogurt before my GP xXx

Dairy really helped me, ice cream, yogurt, milk etc. I used to drink a bottle of gaviscon every week or 2 at it's worst. Sleeping with lots of pillows helps as it's generally worse at night. Avoid anything with spice, or really any strong flavour at all, bland is your friend. My midwife said there is a high grade medicine the docs can give you but I could manage mine, might be worth trying that though.

And the old wives tales were true for me, my baby had crazy long and thick hair when she was born haha

Oh also try eat little and often, 5 small meals rather than 3 big!I should add it does go away instantly as soon as baby is out, sometimes earlier when you drop! Good luck Smile

Ask for omeprazole - it changed my life! I was suffering so badly with heartburn and it was making me feel so sick all the time. I saw my consultant at 13 weeks when I had my 12 week scan and he prescribed 2 omeprazole a day. I actually only take 1 a day with my breakfast and it honestly transformed my pregnancy. I felt like a new woman overnight. Cannot recommend it enough. I’m going to try dropping to 1 every other day after speaking to another doctor but my midwife was very reassuring that it’s completely safe.

Mine didn’t get bad around that time and I actually didn’t know what it was because I’d never had it before. My partner gets it all the time so straight away he said it was heartburn. I thought it was just going to get worse every week til the end 🤦🏼‍♀️ But it actually stopped again! Had it bad for a few weeks and was really trying not to take anything for it. I’ve found drinking a glass of milk after (not during) meals helps get rid of the burning feeling. I try not to eat/drink while lying down and certain sweet things I’ve now gone off because of how bad they made it so I just avoid a few things

*Mine did 🙄
