When do you first get to feel baby?
I am VERY skinny and have a bump already at 13 weeks and wondering when I'll be able to feel baby move?

Thanks! X

It varies quite a lot and in a first pregnancy I understand it can be much later than subsequent ones, or so it was for me anyway.

With DD1 it was at 20 weeks and with DDs 2 & 3 it was 12/13 weeks.

Shisham · 19/05/2021 21:19

I felt mine at 17 weeks

SweetSunflowerBoo · 19/05/2021 21:23

Thank you- and thanks for not being rude to me or calling me stupid for asking

I posted this question on another app/website and people are SO rude!!

"Lol don't be so thick you won't feel the baby yet!😂😂"
"🙄🙄 size doesn't have anything to do with feeling baby"
^umm yes it does because my midwife said so

What do the first movements actually feel like? Like a "flutter"?

I'm very skinny too. Didn't feel dd1 until about 20 or 21 weeks.

MadeForThis · 19/05/2021 21:25

Like a butterfly. Inside.

And a bit like wind popping

Alfxn · 19/05/2021 21:27

Yes it's little flutters at the start! I think 20 - 22 weeks is most common to feel little flutters first. If you don't feel anything by 24 weeks then you're supposed to get checked out. You'll have a bit to wait yet more than likely X

plixy · 19/05/2021 21:29

I felt my first at 15 weeks. I wasn't over weight but wasn't skinny either. It was only flutters which for stronger over a few weeks, but it was definitely there.

Popcornbetty · 19/05/2021 21:30

If you can imagine bubble wrap and the tiny bubbles popping that's what it can feel like, also little swishy butterfly feelings almost like a nervous tummy.

DramaAlpaca · 19/05/2021 21:31

I think it was about 18/19 weeks with DC1.

It was 16 weeks with DC2 and earlier with DC3. I found early on I could feel them most easily when lying on my front in bed. Just little flutters.

shivawn · 19/05/2021 21:32

I'm close to 20 weeks, I think i might have started feeling tiny movements this week but I can't really say for sure!

sausagedogg · 19/05/2021 21:33

First baby I didn't feel until around 22 weeks. Currently pregnant with 2nd baby and I felt them at 17 weeks.

Mylittlepony374 · 19/05/2021 21:34

18 weeks with baby 1. Not sure baby 2. I'm fat. Never knew that made a difference but makes sense.

PairOfPears · 19/05/2021 21:35

Just after 20 weeks for me, it felt like a rubber band twang really low down in my tummy!

8dpwoah · 19/05/2021 21:36

About 22 weeks with DD (anterior placenta), was skinny myself. No real bump (plenty of bloat though) til around the same time.

About 14 weeks with this one (posterior placenta), was quite surprised to be that early. Slightly less skinny this time and my abs have given up so I had a 'proper' solid baby bump again about the same time. I reckon the two things are linked tbh.

For me to begin with it feels like tapping or like a fish does bumping against the bag when you buy them from the aquatic shop. Like gas but firmer, like a muscle twitch but longer and less intense. Soon descends into 'what the bloody hell are you doing in there?!' that's when you'll know for sure!

Shisham · 19/05/2021 21:43

Feels like popcorn popping ☺️

Jurassiclover · 20/05/2021 02:30

Around 16 weeks for me. First felt like bubbles popping, or that feeling when you go over a big dip in the road and your belly feels funny, kind of like that. I wasn't super skinny nor did I have much of a bump when I first started feeling the baby move

Rosieposy89 · 20/05/2021 08:42

I felt baby move at 15 weeks. It felt like flutters very low down. I'm overweight and have a posterior fundal placenta

Thefaceofboe · 20/05/2021 10:14

I’m really slim and felt baby inside about 16 weeks and by 18 weeks could feel movement on the outside Smile

MadeForThis · 20/05/2021 13:11

I think people feel the second baby sooner as they know what the sensation feels like. It would be very easy to miss it in the first few weeks.

Amz6219 · 20/05/2021 17:05

I seem to buck the trend - felt my first at about 14 weeks, only just started feeling this one this week (18 weeks)

I think I may have little flutters for a couple of weeks but busy with toddler not really noticed and dismissed as wind!

Had a couple of days of definite kicks this week x
