Leg cramps during the night at 29 weeks

Hi!

Over the last week or so I have been experiencing quite painful leg cramps during the night. They tend to wake me up and although the cramps do go off, my legs feel very achy the next day. Has anyone else experienced this? I sleep with a pregnancy pillow on my left side (pillow between my legs) but not sure what else I can do to try and prevent it happening.

Thanks! Xx

That’s very normal! No advice but definitely normal

I sympathise! I had this all the time through both pregnancies. Was told that the quinine in tonic water and potassium in bananas would help. Not sure anything really worked but it's worth a try!

I think its very common and mine went away as soon as I gave birth both times. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

Make sure you are well hydrated and try a magnesium supplement... it solved mine within a couple of days.

Lavender201 · 19/05/2021 16:47

Same, it’s awful. For me it’s from low iron levels.

Thanks for the advice so far ladies, glad that the cramps are normal. They seem to just start from no where... I hit the third trimester and that was it lol. I will try the tonic water and bananas and a magnesium supplement sounds a good idea too. Xx

Magnesium supplement! I had this in all 3 pregnancies and it’s the only thing that helped! I buy sachets that dissolve in a glass of water and drink it before bed each night.

MintGreenLife · 19/05/2021 21:03

@sunshinecitrus1 this happened to me too! Went into the third trimester and instantly started getting leg cramps in the night 😅 I’m 29+3 and like you they wake me up and then my calves are achey the next day x

sunshinecitrus1 · 19/05/2021 22:33

@PrimeraVez Can you send me the link for the one you take if possible? Smile

@MintGreenLife Yeah it’s so weird isn’t it, literally overnight it just started out of no where lol. It’s a really strange symptom I must admit, this wasn’t one I was expecting Grin X

Sorry, I'm not in the UK so a link probably wouldn't be much use, but it's just a regular over the counter magnesium supplement! Have also heard you can buy a cream that you rub into your legs that might be nice as well!

I've been using a magnesium spray on my legs before going to bed. I still get some cramps but not as many as I did.

sunshinecitrus1 · 20/05/2021 08:38

Thanks @PrimeraVez and @Hibbs126 Smile
I have just looked up some spray and I think I am going to order it and give it a go. Last night was better, I did some stretches before bed and although I still feel a bit achy, I didn't get any cramps so that was a relief Grin
