10 weeks post partum😳

Hello, I'm 10 weeks post partum, and I've been breastfeeding round the clock. I had a short bleed at around 7 weeks post partum, which was brown so didn't think this was my first period after birth. I've felt really nauseous for the last couple of weeks, but wasn't sure if these were just normal post partum symptoms too. I've had some headaches on and off too. These two things were the symptoms I had when I got a positive with first baby. I did a test yesterday that I had leftover from last year (think it was an Acutest from coop), and there was a faint positive that came up in the time limit (didn't take pic, and its faded a bit now). I've ordered some FRER and a clear blue digital to double check, but I'm going to space out testing.

Has this happened to anyone else who was exclusively breastfeeding?

Not to me, but I know it happens to lots of people who are exclusively breastfeeding. I'm afraid breastfeeding is not effective contraception - there's a reason why the midwives go on about using contraception after birth. You will ovulate before you see a period, ergo you will be fertile before you know your periods have come back. And you have had something that might have been a period!

Would you be okay with being pregnant again now? Fingers crossed it all works out for you.

Yeah, I'm aware it's not 100% effective, but from what I read it was if you gave your baby a dummy or you weren't feeding every 4 hours (and I was doing way more than that 😂) that made it not effective. I'm pretty sure there was only one time we didn't use protection and only realised afterwards, so that would be just my luck! Maybe my cycle just returned quickly.

I wouldn't mind being pregnant right now (would have liked to lose the stone I hadn't lost from pregnancy weight first but😂), as we would have liked close ish in age if we could (albeit a bit more of a gap), so will have to see how testing goes in the next few days

Not me personally but my friend ebf and was pregnant again within 3 months! Also the second time I breastfed my period returned at 8 weeks so I was very careful with contraception. Good luck with whatever happens!

Yeah, your periods aren't likely to return while you're feeding so frequently (mine stayed away for 10 months with my first son - it was lovely!), but for some people they do. The problem is that you can't know when your cycle is going to return, so there is absolutely always a good chance you can get pregnant that first time you ovulate!

Sounds like it might have been a happy accident :) Good luck! x

Thanks everyone! Either outcome will be positive, if I'm pregnant, that's great, and if not my periods might have returned which means when we do want to try again we don't have to worry about not knowing if I'm ovulating or not 😊
