@Noodles4Me I booked a place at my DDs nursery when I was about 5-6 months pregnant (just over a year before she would start) as I wanted one with specific opening hours and term time only places but haven't done anything this time yet. I think when you need to book/look at nurseries depends on waiting lists in your area, some are a few months, others can be a year

Kirky658 · 23/05/2021 12:03

Hi ladies hope all is well. Just been for my first swimming season in years! Managed a very respectable 28 lengths and ready for a sleep now. X

Mamabearwhere · 23/05/2021 12:44

Hi ladies! Hope you’re all well. Haven’t been on here for a week or two! Can’t believe we are over half way! Is anyone else still struggling with tiredness? I started to feel better after the first trimester but recently have started to feel really tired especially my legs, they feel so heavy and walking around even at home feels so difficult! I’m thinking of getting a lymphatic drainage massage as I heard it helps alleviate pain which may be caused by water retention. I do feel quite swollen so looking into that. Anyone else had that massage before?

Mamabearwhere · 23/05/2021 12:50

@RaeRae84 I don’t plan on going back after my year off mat leave. I’ve been with them for 8 years, this is my third maternity leave with them and there’s zero progression left within the company. It’s just not worth my time to leave the kids to go back to a dead end job anymore. I’d like to either start working for myself or look at a career change. I haven’t let work know yet but will do closer to my scheduled return.

RaeRae84 · 23/05/2021 13:51

@Mamabearwhere that sounds like a good plan! Especially if you don't feel like you can progress. I can't really go anywhere now either, I'm already a manager and they wouldn't make any of us directors until more have retired (nor would I want to be!) I don't really agree with their values/morals and I think covid has highlighted is even more for me. I'm just done really. Will miss the money but I think it's absolutely the right decision. I haven't told them yet either, will tell them once my mat pay ends next year that I'm not coming back. I know they don't pay it but don't want them to stop me getting it (if that's possible!!)

FTEngineerM · 23/05/2021 14:01

I think it depends where you are @Noodles4Me but with us they always have space and I can chop and change days as I like. If you’re in London for example they seem to have enormous waiting lists🤭.

Me too @Mamabearwhere been napping when DC1 does, I didn’t even do that when he was a newborn!😂

Bubbles1st · 23/05/2021 14:29

Question for you ladies who have been pregnant before!

How early did you feel baby up near/under ribs? I have a really uncomfortable and painful area just below my ribs. It feels to early to be baby but I'm sure I feel something. The pain isn't constant either, some positions I feel nothing.

Not sure if I've pulled something or if little monkey is giving me a dig there already.

I was meant to have midwife tomorrow but they've rearranged and it's now not until June, not sure if I should call or just rest and hope it eases?

Any advice or similar experiences appreciated

FTEngineerM · 23/05/2021 14:57

I had that Friday @Bubbles1st turned out I was mega constipated, so every time the baby touched anywhere inside it abso killed. It’s much better today after the constipation has cleared. It was like a dull uncomfortable ache and then when poked it was a sharp pain. But you’ll obviously know if you’re constipated or not.

Have a look at the piccy for 25 weeks, your organs are on the move.

Have you got the number for the community midwives for a quick chat or do you have to wait where you are for the appt?

September 2021 - Thread 6 is here!
Bubbles1st · 23/05/2021 15:15

@FTEngineerM thanks, it's definitely not constipation! I did wonder to start with if it might be trapped wind - again know now it definitely is not 🤣

The midwife last time did say I have a short torso so it could just be everything moving and being more crapped but as it's tender to touch I just wondered if his feet were underneath. I'm sure I can feel something!

I will see how I am tomorrow and give them a call but I can't imagine they will say much other than reassure it's normal 🙈

Allicit · 23/05/2021 15:20

@Noodles4Me are you sure? Cos I work for the nhs too and I get 8 weeks full pay, 18 weeks half pay + smp then 13 weeks smp leaving 13 weeks unpaid however you can split across the year. I thought it was the same everywhere regardless of trust. Yours sounds much better!!! x

Noodles4Me · 23/05/2021 15:59

@Allicit no, you are right. That's my fat fingers. 8 weeks full pay. With my masses of annual leave and 4 Bank Holidays I can afford 8 months off (just about)

FTEngineerM · 23/05/2021 16:11

It may well be then @Bubbles1st my pregnancy+ app says they’re 35cm today woohoo (24 weeks) I think you’re further ahead so they’ll be even longer.

Bubbles1st · 23/05/2021 17:18

@FTEngineerM I'm only 2 days ahead!

We've said he had long legs all along in the scans... will just see what happens over the coming days.

SillyBry · 23/05/2021 18:52

Well I’ve had quite an active weekend and man, my hips are killing me! I’ve never been more excited than I am for my pregnancy massage tomorrow! I text my friend telling her to limber her fingers up as I’m walking like an old maid!!

I’ve worked for the same boss for 11 years and changed last year. I’m not inspired to return to my current role or to work for him... but it pays the bills and I’ve done the job forever, so it’s an easy way to go back into work whilst settling into school runs/nursery routine etc.
Someone asked about booking nursery spaces. We looked round and booked our nursery spot when my daughter was about 10 weeks old to hold her space. Less pressure this time as they see me 4 days a week and hopefully won’t let my daughter leave in august without holding me a baby space! 🤣

Kirky658 · 23/05/2021 20:28

Wow all this talk about nurseries makes me so grateful that my mum and dad are going to be out chief childcare! Incredibly, very very very lucky. They live 5 mins walk from us and we moved here with the intention in mind so it's worked out so well.

SillyBry · 23/05/2021 22:06

Although nursery sounds scary, now my daughter is nearly leaving, I feel emotional the other way! I actually feel sad that she’ll be leaving her nursery family behind!!

FTEngineerM · 23/05/2021 22:12

Slightly jealous of the grandparent childcare and the pregnancy massage 😭

Poppins2016 · 23/05/2021 23:00

@Bubbles1st I had rib discomfort at about 18 weeks with my first and around 20 weeks with this one. I know my uterus isn't that far up yet, but I think it's the displacement of internal organs along with muscles stretching... the feeling definitely changes/increases when baby is moving!

My first baby used to love the transverse position, which is apparently one of the most uncomfortable positions for pregnant women and often causes rib pain.
I strongly suspect that this baby also loves the transverse position judging by how/where I've felt movements...
It can feel quite tender/almost bruised to touch (particularly on one side where I have some slight muscle weakness due to over compensating for an old back injury).

I try to sit as upright as possible, because being hunched over increases the discomfort. I also stretch regularly (just slightly arching my back) every so often for temporary relief...

Kirky658 · 24/05/2021 09:45

So tired this morning. Woke up with a headache and feeling so exhausted and a bit sick. Didn't have much for breakfast so just had some biscuits as feeling nauseous. Feels like the first trimester all over again 😞

MrsTD88 · 24/05/2021 09:48

@Kirky658 you have my sympathy. I've been throwing up all morning, also have swollen glands. For the first time in a long time I've called in sick. My gran has taken little one to nursery for me so looking forward to lots of rest today. Hope you feel better soon. 💛

Kat1112025 · 24/05/2021 10:38

Nursery question...
We're looking at a couple nearby hoping to get a place for Sept 2022 intake, but we don't yet know if we'll need 3/4/5 days a week. It seems so far away now to be clear on how we want to arrange childcare.

What approach to take with the nursery? Do you try and get a place for 5 days and then drop down, or is that impossible and you'll end up paying for 5 days a week even if you don't need them? We'll definitely need at least 3, the other 2 days depend on how both me and my husband feel about going part time, down to 4 days a week.

Kirky658 · 24/05/2021 11:11

@mrstd88 ahhh bless you lovely I hope you get a good restful day ❤️
I'm feeling a bit better now I've been snacking but this headache won't shift. Think a chilled day is in order, quiet day work wise at least I'm at home!

SillyBry · 24/05/2021 12:41

@Kat1112025 I would ask the nursery how they prefer to do it.
I think they are quite used to people being in this situation! From memory, we paid the deposit and held the 3 days we knew we wanted with the discussion that we might well want to add extra days. But that was under their advice.
my daughter has been at nursery since 10 months, she’s now 4 and our guys are amazing. We had extensive work done to our house in March and they moved things around to accommodate her full time for 5 weeks. They have let me keep one of those extra days permanently as I’m now pregnant. And have let me swap her day off in two weeks so I don’t have to pay to take her out for a day to see family.

It makes such a difference going somewhere where they want to be helpful and accommodating 👍🏻😊

Scotti84 · 24/05/2021 14:35

I find it crazy how far in advance this stuff needs to be planned. Were looking at a childminder, the nurseries here are rammed and from what I've experienced from the kids we know that go they're, theyre all wild and not best behaved. Hoping to be able to go back to work two days a week until shes Kindergarten age, but we'll have to see.

On another, unpleasant note (sorry ladies but i have nowhere else to share), my haemorrhoids are back with a vengeance! At the docs tomorrow so will ask him what i can do about them, but bloody hell what a horrible bloody side effect! I hope they clear up after the birth!

leftitlate37 · 24/05/2021 16:02

oh wow what a lot to catch up on!! :) NHS worker here so decent pay but v envious of the 6 mo full pay folk, i left a job 5y ago when we had that, shame wasnt ready for kids then!! will share some leave with hubby but hoping i can manage to get 8 months off if add on my annual leave to end of maternity leave.
also envious of grandparent childcare and pregnancy massage! sounds ideal!
defo wont get the grandparent childcare but think i might book a massage, been pondering ages but the one locally who looks good only does during the day so trying to fit her appt slots round work is tricky. @Mamabearwhere i feel like ive run a marathon by end of day, its mad how sore and achey my legs get! I try keep them up when i can as my spider veins are getting worse and think got varicose veins coming in my right leg grrrr. defo could happily have a massage a day, maybe a bit too indulgent haha
got my 25w appt tomorrow altho rang midwife today as been panicking as had a lot less movement altho know we arent meant to have a pattern now. But had been feeling loads of movement regularly and suddenly just the odd poke not v often. they would have seen me but said it can be normal if theyve shifted at this stage, so will have a check tomorrow etc. looking forward to them measuring to make sure everything is ok, my mums put the panic in me saying im not big enough :s but pretty sure im growing pretty quickly, the diff in 5 weeks is nuts and also guess my body is longer than hers so will look different to how she thinks i should at this stage!? been one of those days ive just had a stress out!
@Scotti84 sorry to hear about your haemorrhoids, sounds nasty :( hope u can get some relieft from them, they say they clear up after birth dont they?
