Round ligament pain

Hi all!

I'm just curious about everyone's experience with round ligament pain and how long it can go on for?
I've been getting shooting pains on my left and right side in the lower abdomen, sometimes an ache. I know it only lasts a few seconds but my pain has been intermittent and returning all day whenever I move or lay a certain way.
I'm 14 weeks and saw baby yesterday so I'm not overly worried it's anything more serious.
I'll phone my midwife or doctor tomorrow to see what they say, it's my first pregnancy so I didn't know anything about this apart from what google has told me..
(I don't usually google but it's Sunday and I wasn't able to get hold of anyone)

@OliviaL9530 firstly congratulations on your pregnancy. Definitely sounds like round ligament pain and it is totally normal! I'm 16 weeks and have been getting it on and off for the last couple of weeks. Some days I don't get it at all, others it's every time I move, cough, sneeze etc. As long as the pain isn't constant and only lasts for a few seconds I wouldn't worry ☺️. I had a really bad one after I sneezed the other day and that made me panic but all is fine. Just to put your feet up and relax x

@lockdownbabyx

Aw thank you! You too. Ah thank you for the reassurance. Oh weeks?! I was hoping it would just be a one off 😂 it is only a few seconds and when I move in a certain position, thankfully I've had nothing when I cough or sneeze just when I get up or rollover in bed.
Is it something I can take paracetamol for? Pretty pointless given the pain is only a few seconds haha xx

@OliviaL9530 thank you! From what I've read, it should stop around 16-17 weeks but some women get it throughout! I haven't had it for a day or 2 now so hopes it's stopped for me. I don't think paracetamol will do much to be honest, as like you said it only lasts seconds. If you feel achy after(which is also normal) then it might be worth a try. I've just powered through to be honest, I try think of it as a good sign as it means your uterus is stretching ☺️ x

Oh lord haha this pregnancy lark isn't what it's cracked up to be is it 😂 mine started yesterday evening around 10:30 then has been on and off today so hoping it settles tomorrow!
Do you think it's worth phoning the doctor or just letting it subside on it's own?
Yes you're right! I suppose it is a good sign but any pain in pregnancy especially around that area is always worrying xx

@OliviaL9530 oh of course it really can be worrying! Before this pregnancy I had 3 losses so every little twinge I was panicking haha. But all my apps, websites and my midwife have said how common round ligament pain is. As long as it's not lasting for more than 20 seconds a time. I also notice it more if I have been more active. Whereas if I've been on the sofa all day I don't have it at all! You can always call your midwife if that will reassure you, it's what they are there for ☺️. I've also had extra scans for reassurance because of my past, so that's another option. Any excuse to see baby haha x

Mine lasts from 4-5 weeks until birth, sorry Grin

lockdownbabyx · 16/05/2021 21:03

@Garman 😂 I'm prepared for it to be honest. When I read that it usually stops at 16 weeks it shocked me. Makes sense for it to last until birth as it's due to stretching! Xx

shivawn · 17/05/2021 14:29

I posted about this last week! Mine started last week on week 18, it was quite persistent, I had it basically everytime I moved, always on my right side. Thankfully it only lasted a few days and then disappeared as suddenly as it started!

I did take paracetamol but I don't think it helped.

Kimblebee19 · 17/05/2021 15:27

Had it throughout until birth also! One of those things to get used to i'm afraid - stand up more slowly and for the love of God brace when you sneeze! Grin

lockdownbabyx · 18/05/2021 22:43

How's the pain been @OliviaL9530 ? I hoped mine had stopped but it's been on and off all night tonight 🤦🏻‍♀️

OliviaL9530 · 19/05/2021 10:39

@lockdownbabyx

It hasn't been too bad! Only a couple of twinges yesterday and this morning but I did phone my midwife and she kitty confirmed the ligament pain. I also had a burst cyst and a heamatoma in early pregnancy and she said it could also be scar tissue pain.xx
