Heavy bleed and clots 3 weeks PP

Last night I heavily bled right through a maternity pad, my knickers and leggings. When I went to the bathroom I passed around 3 big clots. Since then the bleeding has slowed down again but it’s still really bright red.
Should i phone someone? And who?

I didn’t do anything about it last night as I was actually waiting on an ambulance for my sick son (he was fine in the end)

How big are the clots? I think I was told that you need to call the PAU if they're bigger than a 50p coin but don't quote me on it.

They were definitely bigger than a 50p coin. I’m just confused as to why the bleeding has slowed down again because it was really heavy when it happened

I'd say call the PAU if you've still got the number. At the very least they'll be able to point you in the right direction.

How was the birth? Did they say any of the placenta could be retained due to it being ragged at all? With my 3rd baby in Sept I had massive clots and then tmi but a massive bleed and then a big chunk of what I now know was retained placenta, I saved it (gross) and went to the maternity triage at my hospital and they did a vaginal check and ordered an ultrasound to check no more was inside. Luckily it had all come out.

Does the blood smell abit foul and almost sulphate like? Could indicate some placenta has been left? I would call your traige at maternity state you have just had a baby and they will get you to go in and examine you. My bleeding would be really heavy then taper off then heavy clots. I could feel the clots coming out it was very heavy at some points.

Explain to them your bleeding and they will definitely get you in to examine you. Mine was about 6 days pp but it carried on for me for about 2 more weeks. Good luck, so annoying to have to deal with with a new baby aswell 😔 xxx

I unexpectedly delivered at home without any medical help, the ambulance arrived after the birth. They said the placenta came away fully.
I did have a postpartum haemorrhage.
