Where can I buy Gaviscon Double Action Liquid the cheapest?

Three months pregnant and the heartburn's started to twinge. I expect to need a prescription at some point but to also need a lorra lorra Gaviscon over the next six months. Bearing in mind that I'm happy to buy a large quantity at once if it will save money, what's my cheapest option?

Home bargains or B & M maybe?

Amazon perhaps? When you do get a prescription for peptac from the midwife make sure you get the mint one not the aniseed it's absolutely awful 🤢

Can you not use a generic one rather than gaviscon? It's a lot cheaper. (I like the aniseed one) 😂

Where will do a generic one? I've never seen one!

And it has to be mint flavour, not aniseed!

My GP prescribed a very large bottle of gaviscon for me so maybe ask there first? He said it's their preferred first option before other medicines!

GPs prescribe it but I also find they tend to say "I'll prescribe it this time but then you can just buy it"

I bought two 600ml bottles for £19 from Ocado this week but that's probably not the cheapest.

The heartburn i experience during pregnancy is like nothing else. You can get the likes of boots, asda etc own make of liquid heartburn relief. Trust me I have tried them all and nothing works as well as the gaviscon double action liquid in the pink bottle. I got liquid prescribed by the doctor and they only prescribed me the generic chemist brand which tbh didnt touch the sides. So ive ended up spending a fortune on gaviscon throughout this pregnancy. I was buying the 600ml bottles, 2 at a time. Boots had them on offer 2 for £19. You could try chemists online to see if they have any offers like this but otherwise ive found it is exspensive no matter where you go. In the end I rang GP in a dyer state a few weeks ago (who knew heartburn could be that bad?) and he prescribed me Omeprazole. Best thing I have ever done, i've went from swigging gaviscon from the bottle hourly going through 3 to 4 large bottles a week to still having the same same bottle I had when the Omeprazole was prescribed. Ive only had to take it when Ive ate foods that are really acidic like orange juice and therefore try to avoid.

I’m the same, getting through gallons. I bought boots own version the other day, it tasted vile! I’ll be sticking to gaviscon.

Swap to rennie mint tablets, cheaper and 10x more effective!

Undersnatch · 14/05/2021 22:24

Oh you are giving me memories, had a bottle in every handbag, by the bed, swigging it constantly!

Italiandreams · 14/05/2021 22:38

Sorry but I find Rennie’s don’t even rough the sides! The gaviscon tablets are a bit better but only the liquid really works. Guess we are all different.

My GP has prescribed the big 600ml bottles of gaviscon before, not the pink double action ones though. They are so expensive and I went through so much, I'd carry it everywhere and drink it straight from the bottle. I probably would have spent well into the hundreds just on gaviscon if it wasn't on repeat prescription.

By the third trimester my heartburn was so relentlessly bad I couldn't eat so I was prescribed omeprazole. Honestly it was amazing and I wouldn't hesitate to have it again.

PerspicaciousGreen · 15/05/2021 13:18

I've had raniditine and onmeprazole in previous pregnancies and will definitely ask again when it's more than the odd twinge! I've never been offered Gaviscon or equivalent on prescription. And I find Rennie's to be totally pants! In my last month or two last time, I got through a bottle of Gaviscon a week while being on prescription meds too!! Giving birth was just fantastic to not have heartburn any more!!!

Interesting to hear PFin that you found it had to be the real thing. I might try a generic one anyway if I can find one (maybe our local Boots etc is just too small?) but probably resign myself to spending our baby's inheritance on pregnancy Gaviscon Smile

Yes this is the version they sell in boots.

I’ve honestly spent about £200 on double action Gaviscon throughout my pregnancy - I go through a big bottle a week! Also on Omeprazole because it got so bad. Cheapest I found it was around £12 a big bottle - don’t bother with the smaller ones!
