Told sex at 13+1 week

So we had our 12 week scan yesterday at 13+1 and thankfully everything looks good.

I asked the sonographer (fully expecting her to say it was too early) if she had any idea if it was a boy or girl and she very convincingly told us it was a boy. She proceeded to show us different things on the screen including a potty shot.

When I probed further to see how sure she was and if there was a possibility it was a girl she seemed certain it was a boy and said she’s never been wrong. This has been playing on my mind since and I have sent a couple of scan pictures to various “nub experts” who have also said it’s a boy with one saying 85% sure and another saying 95% sure.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a sonographer tell them the gender so early and if they were right or wrong. Just to add she told me she’s been doing this for 7 years and is a doctor. We’re not fussed either way as a healthy baby is most important but curiosity has now got the better of me.

I saw a fetal medicine consultant for my 12 week scan (am not in the UK) and he said he was 70% confident it was a girl. My ‘normal’ OB also said girl at my 16 week scan and then the same fetal medicine consultant confirmed it was a girl at my 20 week scan.

I’ve never been told so early. Lucky you! Personally though I don’t think she would have told you and shown you how if she wasn’t sure. So I’d probably be inclined to trust her judgement...

Congratulations, how exciting! You can always have a private gender scan to confirm if you’d like or else will probably find out for definite at the 20week scan?

Ps. The earliest I’ve been told is 14 weeks at a private scan

I was told at 13+1 by a private sonographer too. She said she wouldn’t have said anything unless she was fairly sure. I don’t think it’s standard nhs practice but I do think they can tell, even if they don’t always say!

I had my scan at 13 weeks with DS and they told me it was a boy. I was shocked as wasn't expecting them to tell me so early! But they were right.

I already knew at 13 weeks after a harmony but had a scan at 13+4 or 5, and the sonographer told me it was a boy, and she was right
