20 week scanxiety!

Anyone else?

I’ve got 2 weeks to wait, everything has been normal so far, we had a private scan at 16 weeks and all good. But time is standing still and I keep worrying somethings gone wrong, as I’m not getting regular movement yet.

Anyone else want to wait with me, or got any words of reassurance about the 20 week scan? Xxx

I feel exactly the same. I have massive irrational fear about my anomaly scan. It’s a week today and this is baby number 5. For some reason I just feel like instinctively something isn’t right. It’s a very strange and frankly horribly feeling. I like the idea of a thread to share these feelings. It has been a while since my last pregnancy but I don’t feel much movement and I’m sure I was feeling more in previous pregnancies. My sister had a termination at this gestation due to severe fetal abnormalities so that is also a factor in my fear.
Essentially I’m just going try and keep really busy.
Sending lots of love x

Hi @Peacefulspirit sorry you’re feeling this way too, at least it’s not just me though. When is your 20 week scan?

I had 2 mc last year and no successful pregnancies yet although this one is going well. I keep thinking it’s too good to be true.

I seem to obsess about different things - sometimes I think my bump looks too small, sometimes I worry I’m not feeling much movement. Also at both my 12 and 16 week scans baby wasn’t ‘somersaulting’ on the screen like a lot of women say they do so I was worried shout that too. Sonographers haven’t seemed concerned so I feel like I just need to relax, but it’s so hard to do that the closer the scan gets.

I hope our scans go well and we feel better after that ❤️

I got really upset and panicked last Saturday because I hadn’t felt movement for a few days, called triage in tears. It was because I’d bought a load of boys clothes off eBay and was putting them away (we found out we were having a boy at 16 week scan) and I just got so scared that I’ve done the wrong thing buying clothes early and got so emotional looking at all these beautiful clothes that I want to dress my baby in 😞

Triage reassured me that movement isn’t regular at this stage but I’m still worried! xxx

Very early for your baby to be having a routine with movement.
I felt exactly the same at 17 weeks and booked another private scan to put me as ease.

Cafeaulait27 · 14/05/2021 12:57

@Astronaut8 that’s what I try to tell myself 😅 thank you ❤️

That’s why I booked the 16 week scan, as the wait between 12 and 20 weeks seems so long. But I’m still freaking out having to wait 4 weeks!

I feel like (or hope) once I get past 20 weeks I’ll feel better 🤞

It’s just reassuring to know other people feel the same. I definitely don’t remember feeling like this with the others xx

@Cafeaulait27 I too have 2 weeks to wait. Had a great scan at 14 weeks, then midwife the other day who heard a healthy heartbeat. But now the anxious wait until the next scan. Last night I only started to feel a few odd flutters but nothing since!

I too had 2 miscarriages last year and also have a 2 year old x

It's completely normal. I'm 21+5 and we had ours last week and all was good from what they could see. I have to back next week as baby was hiding their legs and bladder. I had horrible anxiety before mine and to be honest, I really didn't enjoy the scan, it took 40 minutes, could see baby's body parts in detail and I kept waiting for something bad to be found because I was so anxious. I don't think it helps its calles the anomaly scan as I just think it makes it sound as if anomalies are more common than they are! Good luck

nibblette · 15/05/2021 10:39

I'm having my 20 week scan in a few weeks too. Baby's heartbeat was very strong when the midwife used the doppler at the 16 week appointment. Trying to keep a positive mindset but am also anxious. Sending hugs to everyone 💜

Cafeaulait27 · 15/05/2021 15:21

@Rosieposy89 glad that your scan went well. It does sound quite nerve wracking as it’s such a detailed scan. It seems to be quite common to have to be rescanned for the 20 week one, at least you get to see baby again too! Xx

@nibblette it’s so great when they find the heart beat with the Doppler isn’t it, so reassuring. I recorded mine for my husband and play it back a lot 😂

Last night in bed I had my hand on my belly as I could feel internal movements and felt the baby kick my hand a few times, my husband got to feel it too, so that was really reassuring. Xxx

Eeeek my scan is on Friday! I’ve been feeling baby kick LOADS though this week which is reassuring.

How’s everyone else getting on?

@Cafeaulait27 good luck for your scan! I have mines on Tuesday. I too have been feeling quite a lot of movement the past week which is reassuring, though I do still panic if I don't feel anything!

Cafeaulait27 · 26/05/2021 15:45

Good luck @Fawn68! 🤞

The movement is really reassuring isn’t it. I think mine must’ve had a growth spurt because it’s gone from swirling every few days to definite kicks that I can see on the outside pretty much every time I sit or lie down in the space of a week! It even woke me up last night!

It’s such an amazing feeling, I just hope baby is healthy 🤞🌈✨

@Cafeaulait27I hope your scan went well. x

My scan is next Thursday, fingers crossed all goes well. 🤞

Cafeaulait27 · 29/05/2021 03:06

Hi @nibblette pleased to say it all went great! He looked amazing and was kicking and yawning on the screen. Sonographer said all looked good. So happy!

Good luck for your scan - keep us updated! Xx
