Hi new to this. Bit stressed and worried. I do cheap pregnancy tests every now and then. I missed my pill and I did have sex. Today I had a big clot and bad cramping and feel tired and sick. Am I having a miscarriage?

When's your period due and have you taken a pregnancy test?

lilaaa223 · 13/05/2021 11:03

I dont know I havent had my period for 52 days till the bleeding and clot yesterday and I took a test a month ago and had unprotected sex and missed my pill since then. I took my test a day after having unprotected sex

Hi op
What was the result of the last pregnancy test you did?

lilaaa223 · 13/05/2021 11:37

I did it like 3 weeks ago day after having sex. It was negative just just worried because I did it right after sex and it was a cheap 1.00 one I got the result like straight away

I’m sure they say to wait 2-3 weeks after having unprotected sex to take a test, or the first day after a missed period, unless you were already pregnant, you wouldn’t get a positive straight after having sex, how long were you on the pill for ?

PlantMummy87 · 13/05/2021 12:38

Sorry you are going through this.

If the test was taken straight after sex the results would not be valid as even if you had sex right near ovulation it would still take at least around 5 days (although most people it takes longer) for a fertilised egg to implant and then at least 8 days for hCG to rise to be able to show on a test. Even then a lot of people find they don't get a positive until 14 + days post ovulation.

You could always take a test now. hCG can take a while to get to leave your system (when I miscarried at 7 weeks pregnant it took 6-7 weeks later for me to get a negative test.) Although if it was a chemical pregnancy that I think the hCG wouldn't have risen as much and falls quicker.

Take a pregnancy test now op

PlantMummy87 · 13/05/2021 12:47

Just to add most pregnancy tests require being taken after a missed period. So if you had a 28 day cycle and you ovulated on day 14 and had sex in that fertile window of around 5 days (a few days before, on or after ovulation), you could take a test on day 28. Some of the more sensitive pregnancy tests allow you to take the test I think 6 or less days before a missed period, so you could take on cycle day 22 I think. I hope this makes sense, as taking it the day after sex wouldn't show a valid result as technically at that point even if fertilisation had happened it won't have implanted and you won't be producing hCG which is what the test is looking for.

Starsong82 · 13/05/2021 12:50

I'd take a test today, if it's been 52 days since you had a period and you've had unprotected sex then yes there's a chance you could be pregnant/miscarrying but only a test/scan can confirm xx

DizzySquirrel90 · 13/05/2021 12:53

Take a test

lilaaa223 · 13/05/2021 13:15

I've been on it for 2 weeks now but missed quite a few

OP posts:
Chunkyetfunky90 · 14/05/2021 20:18

Hi op,
How are you feeling ?

Chunkyetfunky90 · 14/05/2021 20:19

Chemical miscarriage going from google is a early pregnancy loss just after implantation,

willithappen · 14/05/2021 20:20

Hi OP

A chemical is still a miscarriage but it's just a really early one. A lot of women have them but don't even know as the bleeding comes around a similar time to their period.

willithappen · 14/05/2021 20:21

If the pregnancy ends before being 5 weeks pregnant it's considered a chemical miscarriage

lilaaa223 · 14/05/2021 20:52

Because I have more like tissue coming out of me. My friend said hers looked like mine. Is there anyway to have a miscarriage without having hgc levels

Chunkyetfunky90 · 14/05/2021 21:41

@lilaaa223
Have you been to the doctors ?

lilaaa223 · 15/05/2021 00:47

No I am booking an appointment

JackJack84 · 15/05/2021 07:29

Hi @lilaaa223 I've just come across your thread & it sounds like you're going through a hard time.

You said you had an appointment at a health clinic, did you manage to see someone?

If you haven't had a period for over 50 days & are now having all these symptoms I'd definitely advise that you get some medical advice if you haven't already. Did you take another pregnancy test recently?

lilaaa223 · 15/05/2021 11:00

Hi

It is really confusing. So it all happened on the 12th. And on the 14th around 3pm I saw a sexual health worker but she just done a pregnancy test and said it was negative. She didnt ask about my symptoms didnt show her the photo. I need to book an appointment with my doctor. Reckon they could do some blood work?

OP posts:
JackJack84 · 16/05/2021 08:16

Yes definitely a good idea to see your gp, I can't say whether they'd do bloods but there's no harm in asking! Good luck x
