43 and pregnant

I have just found out today that I'm pregnant. The test I used says 3+ weeks but I had my last period 6 weeks ago. I already have one DC who is 14. I would describe it as a pleasant surprise. I haven't been pregnant since I had DC1. I'm really happy about it, but also quite nervous about a lot of things to do with being pregnant at my age. I'm trying not to get too excited because it's so early. No one else knows except my partner. He is happy about it as well. Is anyone else currently pregnant at 40+ or has recently given birth around this age.

Congratulations OP!

I'm 44 and pregnant with my first (5 previous early losses). 26 weeks today. I'm not going to lie, it has been a very anxious time, but not that much due to my age, but my history. Try to go with the flow and enjoy it. I paid for a few private scans (from 6 weeks onwards) and also did NIPT before my 12 week scan. Preferred to know sooner rather than later if something was wrong. Congratulations and good luck! xx

@cautious78 congratulations! I had my twins at 41, and currently 31 weeks pregnant with number 3 at 43. No age related issues at all with either pregnancy, in fact my age has barely ever been mentioned by any HCP. Being a FTM in my forties has been a wonderful experience and I've never felt better than since having my twins 😊

Had dc5 at 43 when dc1 was 20 yo. He was and is a precious gift. Be happy, hope all goes smoothly, enjoy your pregnancy and your gift. Flowers

I’m expecting my first next week ... I’m 48! The pregnancy has gone smoothly. A precious late blessing. All the best OP Flowers

I'm 44, 13 weeks and my first pregnancy. I was quite nervous about my age, but had a lovely chat with a midwife who reassured me. Also had Nipt done just after 10 weeks. Still taking it one day at a time, but lots of lovely support here.
Wish you and the others who have posted here all the best.

I’m 41 with a 3 month old. It was a good pregnancy and birth and she has been amazing. I actually feel better than when I had my first 9 years ago as she’s a much better sleeper! Congratulations and hope it all goes wonderfully! Flowers

@cautious78 "43 and pregnant" There's a TV reality show in there somewhere!Grin

BurningBenches · 13/05/2021 09:25

I had DC4 at 40 and I'm expecting again at 41. Older DC are 20, 11 and 10.

Aside from taking blood thinners, DC4 pregnancy was fine, I felt better than I did at 20. My age hasn't been mentioned at any of my appointments really. They all say oh you're not that old when I say anything 😂

spangleswereace · 13/05/2021 09:58

I had my first at 40 and my second seven months ago at 45!
Both pregnancies went smoothly and I wouldn't change a thing!
Huge congratulations! 🥰

Missreginafalange · 13/05/2021 13:53

I am 41 and 19 weeks pregnant with my second. I had the NIPT test done at 14 weeks as got high risk for downs based on age alone (the NIPT test came back as very low risk) but wish I'd booked it in sooner

Good luck and hope you have a smooth pregnancy

Tweaker · 13/05/2021 14:19

Congratulations! I'm nearly 42 with dc2 and now 12 weeks. Just had my scan. Age hasn't been mentioned tbh and I feel great - no different from my first pregnancy in my twenties. I am genuinely starting to think this is a great time to have kids. I'm a lot more laid back and self assured than I was years ago Smile

I'm 7wk6d pregnant at 43 after having had 2 mc's in past year, my DD is almost 8!

CameraCoffeeCrochet · 17/05/2021 11:23

Hiya, congrats , I'm 42, have one son who is 14 and just got a BFP , I think I'm around 3 weeks, haven't seen my Gp yet. I'm pretty nervous about the age thing too and hoping that things progress well but I know it's still very early days.

InDreamland · 17/05/2021 14:37

Congratulations OP and everyone else on this thread. I'm 41, 19 weeks with DC2, DC1 is 15 months old. I'm anxious because of my history of unexplained infertility followed by 2 losses rather than my age. Am on asprin to thin the blood due to previous pregnancy but other than that no mention of my age has been made aparr from me commenting and the midwife saying I'm not old. Wishing you all a smooth happy and healthy pregnancy.
