Pregnancy rhinitus

Has anyone else suffered with pregnancy rhinitus? I’m pretty sure i have it at the moment, this will be my 6th week of suffering with a very runny snotty nose ( horrible yellow green mucus, sorry tmi) and the last few days I’ve had a very sore throat, I think this is because my nose has been blocked at night so I’ve been breathing through my mouth. The last couple of nights I’ve slept so awful the last few nights and my throats been so sore n dry in the morning it hurts to speak :( I called the docs today to see if they could recommend anything else that would help as it’s getting me down a little. Docs said unfortunately I can’t take anything else to help as too risky, recommended steaming and saline drops. I have been making warm honey and lemon drinks and may put some baby vicks on tonite on my chest. Just want to know if anyone else is suffering with this at the mo, feeling proper lousy.

I have this. Had it on and off all the way through so far. Was worse in the earlier weeks but I think constant vomiting made it worse. Now I have a nose that is either constantly running or blocked. Sore and dry throat from mouth breathing and sneezing all the time. It’s frustrating aswell coz now the baby is pressing on the bladder I feel like I’m going to wee everytime I sneeze!! There isn’t really much we can do about it exempt try to keep nose dry so it doesn’t get chapped and stay hydrated x

@ExcitingTimes2021 omg I’m the same re sneezing or blowing my nose, I literally have to fold my legs as I almost wet myself! Yeh I’m just going to keep drinking as much water as I can etc

You can use steroid nasal sprays, that with paracetamol and saline spray is just about getting me through.

Moominmiss · 12/05/2021 21:22

I’m 21 weeks and my nose is still stuffy every single day.

It was my first pregnancy symptom that started before my positive test.

It’s awful. I too have to sleep with my mouth open so therefore get a sore throat and dry lips.

Every morning I wake up, blow my nose and it’s always got blood in it.

I’ve accepted the fact that it will likely last the rest of the pregnancy, seeing as I’m over half way and it’s showing no signs of getting better!

Uh I had this OP, it was awful! I feel your pain. Saline drops really helped before bed, as did a vaporiser in the bedroom. Rest assured it does go away.

I’ve been suffering so much this pregnancy. I think I’d snored so much the other night that I’d caused my throat to dry out so much that my uvula swelled and was resting on the back of my tongue 🤢.
I use sterimar nasal spray before I go to bed and have been putting a couple of drops of olbas oil in a humidifier with water and leaving it on all night. I’ve found the congestion relief sterimar is better, especially since all the pollen has been out. I don’t normally suffer from hayfever but I think it’s definitely making everything worse! I read about making sure you keep hydrated too so have been drinking plenty throughout the day. I hope you get some relief soon!

This is my first post hopefully I am doing it right lol. I had this problem also but I found the only thing that really helped me sleep better was the anti snoring strips, I wear these and they help me breathe so much better and stops me breathing through my mouth and therefore hurting my throat. They just work my opening your nostrils a little bit wider but I find them so so effective. Also been using my toddlers Calpol saline nasal spray if my nose gets too dry. I got them originally from Home Bargains but they seem to be sold out quite a while. I bought mine off ebay 😊

I had it terrible earlier in pregnancy but it has improved, now 26+1wk and it's very mild.

Montgomerystubercles · 12/05/2021 22:21

I was coming on to say those funny nose strips too, I'd never seen the point in them until pregnancy when they were amazing!

Glitterazzi · 13/05/2021 03:13

Try using nasal strips, they saved me during my last labour! Just that little extra opening of my nostrils helped me to breathe at night. I hope it eases for you though, being truthful mine did last from the beginning of my 2nd trimester to a week or so after my DS was born! Wasn't a thing in my first pregnancy. I found it super frustrating.

*pregnancy not labour...

I think I have this, I do sneeze and get a blocked nose at night sometimes but the main symptom that drives me crazy is the post nasal drip and mucus welling at the back of my throat, I spend so long every day trying to clear it, the only thing that seems to work is eating non stop. I’ve had it since 5-6 weeks and now nearly 16 weeks and it’s no better yet. I tried a neti pot thing but I couldn’t get it to work just ended up with sore sinuses. I try to drink enough but I don’t like the sensation of drinking at the moment.

Thanks so much for all your replies, I’m happy to report that I have been trying nose strips for the past few days along with sterimar spray and it really has made a difference Smile
