Hi ladies!

I'm just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for the best creams/lotions/oils to help prevent stretch marks? I know they can't be avoided entirely but my sisters and mum had them and I'm hoping to do what I can to help avoid them as they did nothing..

I'm about to enter my 14th week of pregnancy so hoping to get a head start.. at least I can say I tried lol

This thread is a few years old now, but if you've come across it while on the hunt for tried and tested stretch mark treatment options, our guide to the best stretch mark cream has been recently updated. It ranks the best stretch mark creams, lotions, oils and butters according to Mumsnet users as well as maternity experts and includes a wide range of options. Hope it's helpful!

Cocoa butter
Bio oil
Vit e oil
Nothing really stops them it's more about keep your tummy skin supple ,so think layering creams then an oil then some cocoa butter and topped off with a good old slather of vaseline at night .

Nothing prevents them, the damage happens in the deepest layers of the skin where lotions and potions can not get to. It's down to skin type. If you take good care of surrounding skin they do fade a bit.

Stay well hydrated and use moisturisers to help with any itching.
I like Palmers cocoa butter.

Bio oil 100%

Used it in first pregnancy and I was HUGE, not got any stretch marks. I think a lot is down to genetics but I think the bio oil helped massively.

I'm 18 weeks with 2nd and just about to start using it again x

Cocoa butter and oils help to a certain extent but apparently it's down to genetics

georgarina · 11/05/2021 20:44

I'm using Bio Oil, no marks in either pregnancy x

I’m 27 weeks and so far so good 🤞🏼 Been putting bio oil on at night then was putting the palmers cocoa butter for pregnancy on in the morning but I’ve ran out of it and have started using the my little coco bump butter in the mornings instead

@OliviaL9530
I used bio oil, went over due with twins that were huge!! I am prone to stretch marks but didn’t get any....

addictedtotheflats · 11/05/2021 21:12

I had large stretchmarks on my stomach pre pregnancy from weightloss. (I wasnt huge but went from a 14-16 to a 10-12) so I was fully prepared for a mammoth amount during pregnancy. I applied cocoa butter and asdas own bio oil and only got a few more just above my bikini line and went 11 days over due with a 9.9lb baby. I was very surprised

I also recommend palmers cocoa butter ,, I used it and my DD and DIL we have no stretch marks

Boondia · 11/05/2021 21:37

Burts bees, I used clarins as well but rate burts bees oil. I still have stretch marks but i forgot to do bottom bit of my belly and you can tell the difference.

Boondia · 11/05/2021 21:38

I also agree its genetic, every woman on my mums side get quite bad stretch marks, at the very least moisturising will help with the itching.

ExpectingToFly · 11/05/2021 21:41

Almond Oil! No stretch marks from either pregnancy (one of them twins)

User0ne · 11/05/2021 21:52

I used jojoba oil a couple of times a week (and if itchy).

No stretch marks from 3 full term pregnancies and i put on 2 1/2 stone in each too.

Icantrememberthenameoftheartis · 11/05/2021 22:25

I swear by Mama Mio tummy rub butter. It’s more expensive but worth it and was recommended to me. I don’t know if I was just lucky but I used it from about 16 weeks in all 3 pregnancies and didn’t get any stretch marks.

I do think eating healthily and maintaining a healthy weight also plays a part.

buckingmad · 12/05/2021 09:44

I'm 28 weeks and gone from a 24 inch waist to 35 inches round the widest point of my bump at the mo so skin has stretched a fair bit and I don't have any yet. I'm using Palmers anti stretch mark cream every evening before bed and after showers.

As others have said, I don't think in reality they really stop them but having well moisturised supple skin can only help.
