i ended up in hospital on froday as i had a bleed. they did an internal and took a swab. they said it looked like i have thrush ( although i dont have any itching) and this caused the bleed. they send of the swab adn my 28 week blood tests. i wasnt given any treatment and was just told to cll for my results. i have called every day since tuesday and they still have no results. i would like to be treated if i have thrush. how long should it take to get a simple test result back, i am getting fustrated

i an only suggest that you make an appointment with your mw and discuss the matter with her, can you call her direct?
you think that is bad, they lost my STD results (for Hep, hiv and another!) luckily they turned up ok.

oh and sods law when i had blood tests the hospital dropped my vial of blood so i had to have another blood test!

e14mum · 15/11/2007 14:10

grrr.. my sympathies.
To hopefully make you feel better, I had to have my booking bloods taken 3(!) times!! First time they got lost, second time they only partially processed them, third time lucky!
They did tell me that it could take 5-10 working days to send the results back though...

frostythesnowmum · 15/11/2007 14:18

If they take a swab they have to grow stuff from it and that takes a few days so the result might not be available yet however why they can't treat you is beyond me thrush is bloody obvious! Have you still got symptoms now if so pop to gp he will sort you out. 28 week blood test should come back to you via gp/mw unless all your care is hospital based - you should get results at next appt. If anything is wrong they generally will call you before. Is really unusual for you to call them - who have they told you to speak too?

goingfor3 · 15/11/2007 14:21

It usually takes a week for swab results to get back to you as they have to be grown which takes a few days. Many blood tests can be done within hours but it also takes about a week for results to get back.

pud1 · 15/11/2007 14:27

thanks all. it makes sense that they have to grow stuff, they have just called and it is clear. left wondering what the bleeding was about. ababy moving loads and i have had my anti d so am going to try not to worry

Mine lost ALL my bloods this time around (STI ones redone, rest at 28 weeks now).... and when i was in labour with ds1 and had eclampsia they lost them then too! (different hospital)- good newws in that otherwise they were going to prep me for not needed c-section, but if it HAD been needed.....quite.

Either you'll get a note saying lost tests, or you can fairly safely assume no news is good news ime

Hospitals are a nightmare! glad u had a call pud1, don't worry too much, im sure they would have said if it was soemthing of concern.last time i went to antenatal the obs said "so, you had a urine infection", which confused me greatly! turns out they found from my sample that i had an infection but didnt call or write to tell me! and i had a suspicion that i had an infection when i gave the sample!
