Growth scan - Husband

MrsXx4 · 09/05/2021 18:26

I’m just wondering if anyone knows if your birth partner can attend a growth scan? My hospital are allowing partners to the 12 week scan and the 20 week scan but I’m not sure about growth?

I am currently 27 weeks and have pneumonia, my midwife checked me over and said I’m measuring too small so I am feeling a little anxious not to mention weak and incredibly tired with having a 2 year old too.

I know I can call up and ask them but it’s Sunday evening and I’m just pondering.

Thank you

If it's in the same place as the dating and anomaly scans then it is possible they will allow him. Just give them a call to check before you go.

Astronaut8 · 09/05/2021 18:31

I would assume so if they are allowed for the others

AnonGlitterBomb · 09/05/2021 18:32

I would have thought so given that he’s been allowed to the previous 2
Hope all goes well Flowers

Mine wasn't allowed at my 28 week growth scan 4 weeks ago but is allowed at my placenta localisation scan tomorrow 🤷‍♀️ I know some places have eased restrictions but every hospital is different x

RunnerDuck2020 · 09/05/2021 18:56

I think it depends on the hospital but my DH has been to all my growth scans with me. Hopefully yours will also be allowed to!

SW100 · 09/05/2021 19:09

At my hospital I can take my husband to 12 and 20 week scans but not growths. Apparently it’s to reduce the number in the waiting rooms.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 09/05/2021 19:11

There are changes happening all the time. It is best to ring unless you name the hospital and someone comes along who has the information. Sometimes the hospital has a Facebook page with current visiting info on.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 09/05/2021 19:13

Officially my hospital said that partners could attend routine scans but not growth scans. Realistically they let him in to a growth scan with me at 7+4 yesterday, although the unit was empty so that may have contributed. On busier days, I’ve seen them ask partners to wait outside.

I hope you’re feeling better soon x

Nat4392 · 09/05/2021 19:14

It will depend on your trust. My partner is allowed to all scans now but this may very well not be the case everywhere.
He came to my 12 and 20 week scans but I’ve not bothered bringing him to any of my many growth scans even though he’s allowed.

8dpwoah · 09/05/2021 19:15

Ours has changed in the last week or so that if you want to bring your partner you both have to have evidence of negative lateral flow test. Doesn't say what to do if it's just me, it implies I don't need to do a lateral flow but it's not clear (not unusual for my trust....they normally put contradictory info in the same letter...)

Given the speed of change and variety of approaches in different trusts I think you'd be totally justified in ringing and asking once you've double checked their website and any social media they run.

Bathmatt · 09/05/2021 19:22

Every hospital seems to have a different policy. I hope he can go with you and I hope you feel better soon Flowers

MrsXx4 · 09/05/2021 20:13

Thank you all. I think I’ll call tomorrow and find out rather than just turn up together.

Thank you for the well wishes too! It’s been tough going but I’m out of hospital now and managing at home with antibiotics and liquid morphine.

In my trust you can't - John Radcliffe. It was 12 & 20 only

SillyBry · 09/05/2021 22:09

In Bucks, it’s 12 week scan only for partners. So strange - I had an emergency scan, which I had to attend alone and ended up being rushed into theatre, all alone. But the routine 12 week scan, he could come to 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️
Good luck - I hope all goes well!

Flowerpot28 · 09/05/2021 22:30

I had a growth scan two weeks ago and had to go on my own x

MrsXx4 · 09/05/2021 22:41

@SillyBry oh no! Is everything ok? That sounds really scary! Flowers

In my trust you can. I have a high risk pregnancy and DH was allowed to come to all scans so far. (4 so far, more to come) good luck for tomorrow.

Wishitsnows · 09/05/2021 22:46

Can't see why not.

LittleCatDog · 09/05/2021 22:50

I hope you feel better soon and everything goes well. I was told DH can go to 12 week and 20 week but no others, it must just vary on the hospital.

Coolerthanapolarbearstoenails · 09/05/2021 23:24

In mine you can have them to the growth scans but not 12 or 20 week scans - they are done in a different place and the rooms are tiny so SD is impossible.

Calling them is the only way to know. Hope you feel back to normal soon Cake

SillyBry · 10/05/2021 07:24

@MrsXx4 everything is ok now thanks! I had a ruptured ectopic immediately before this pregnancy, which was a bit less ok! But amazingly, I’m pregnant again and all seems to be going ok so far!
But had to find out about the ectopic on my own - and then this pregnancy, go to the early scans to check it was ok on my own. But hubby could come to 12 weeks, which was nice. But makes me think he could’ve been allowed to the earlier ones for my support!

PutOnAHappyFace · 10/05/2021 07:35

My midwife said partners are allowed to appointments that could cause distress if your alone. My DH was allowed to my groweth scan but it was in fetal medicine so not sure if that made a difference.

AnxiousAnnie86 · 10/05/2021 08:10

@MrsXx4 my husband couldn't come to my growth scan, but I believe that changed at the last update. So April 12th? I have a scan tomorrow to check as reduced movements and they've said husband can come x

My hospital recently changed their guidelines and partners can now come to all hospital
Appointments including with the midwife & for growth scans if you want them too,
They just can't wait in the waiting room & have to stay outside until you're called in.
