Hi there. Please don't judge I am a 24 year old first time mum but found out pretty late I was pregnant at 4months. My urine sample came back with cannabis in and my midwive said Social Services will need to be informed. I am scared s*less at this prospect. The midwive said SS will more then likely direct me to Narcotic meetings and then nothing further. I am just so worried the implications!!! Does anyone have any experience in this at all? Any social workers our people that have gone though the same. I have not touched it since as I am not addicted just recreational but obviously now I know I am pregnant do not use.

Load if shite. If you admitted to using drugs why would they test your urine. This is bollocks.

nimbuscloud · 09/05/2021 13:07

Good that you have stopped

You were honest which is really positive/important and I agree with PP who have advised to be honest with Children’s Services as well. Before being passed to a team for an assessment/ allocation to a Social Worker all referrals will come through the MASH or ‘front door’ team and it wouldn’t surprise me if at this stage you get a call from the triaging social worker - explain what you have explained here - and if you are open about your use and any support needed they may be able to close with advice or signposting at that stage.

So it’s not because of a urine sample?

It’s because of what you told your midwife?

Did she even run a urine test for cannabis?

DioneTheDiabolist · 09/05/2021 14:50

I agree @Horehound and others. Utter shite.

Peacefulspirit · 09/05/2021 14:54

As a midwife I have known women admit drug use and subsequently have a full drug screen on a urine test. It’s generally because you can identify the specific drugs and quantities. This is because unlike the OP not all people who use are honest. It feels pretty brutal to accuse someone of being dishonest or “full of shit” when they’ve come to ask for support. No-one ever knows how truthful someone is being, ever. We can only assume that people are posting with integrity. If they’re not then they’re only hurting themselves. Just my twopenneth 🤷‍♀️

Midwives do not test for drugs. Even if you have confessed to using them

And is that with or without informed consent?

They can and do.
Peacefulspirit · 09/05/2021 15:05

With consent.

EdwinPootsLovesArchaeology · 09/05/2021 15:26

Ok. So the thread OP is really, 'I admitted to my midwife I had been smoking cannabis for the whole of the first trimester and I consented to a drugs screening urine test, and now I'm worried that there has to be a referral of my case to social services. I stopped smoking as soon as I knew I was pregnant. Any advice?'?
