Placenta partially covering cervix

I had a growth scan last week and my midwife realised today the sonographer has written that my placenta is partially covering my cervix but they never told me that when I had the scan last week? They said all is well and to go back to community midwife!? So I now have to wait for another scan to check if it really is covering my cervix. I am now worrying like mad. I am 37+4.

Hi, I found out mine was partially covering at 20 weeks, I had to have scans at 32 and 36 weeks to see if it had moved. They should re scan you to see how much its covering as you may need a c section.

@StaceImpactWfan what was your outcome? Did you have to have a c section?..
Yes I am waiting for another scan to see if she wrote that on my notes in error or not because when she was scanning me she never mentioned it she said its all ok?

Oh thats odd, yeah they should of picked it up sooner.

Yeah I had to have a c section as it never moved. I was admitted 10 days prior just in case I bled or went into early labour and had her ay 38+3 they wanted to do it at 38 weeks but it was the weekend. I was lucky though as it turned out the placenta was covering the whole cervix not just partially.

Hopefully you will find out soon.

Did you have any signs that you had that? Or was it only because they saw on the scan?..
Yes my midwife said I should be scanned this week so hopefully tomorrow!

In 1957 my grandmother almost died trying to deliver an undiagnosed placenta previa at home. In 2021 imaging means that we have early warning and can adjust delivery timing and method to suit.

I think it’s really odd that this is the first you’ve heard of it, it may well be an error. But if it’s not, at least you know. You’ll most likely have an ELCS and all will be well.

I had c section from having low lying placenta got scanned multiple times at 30+ weeks onwards, if it does not move at All or far enough away they will want to do c section, hopefully it moves for you but at 37+ only few weeks left it could stay were it is x

No had no signs at all, they were shocked I never bled once as that's a sign. I didn't know until the scanned and said it was partial. Had to have internal at 36 weeks and they did say at one point it was covering then said it wasn't but turned out it was so they can get it wrong.

Hopefully for you it's an error as they do tend to pick it up early.

Yeah im just driving myself mad worrying because I just want to know what's going on 😕 and if I do have to have a c section I need time to get my head around it because I am petrified!!

I know exactly how you feel and honestly it was no where near as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Luckily the sonographer made an error and my placenta isn't covering my cervix at all so my home birth is going ahead iv ordered my birthing pool too 😀
