Pregnant after miscarriage

I've just got a positive test, having miscarried twins at the beginning of the year. I feel happy, but also just sick with fear. Is there anything I can do to reduce the risk of MC this time? And can anyone tell me happy stories of successful pregnancy after MC? Any advice welcomed!

Not much you can do to prevent a miscarriage unfortunately. Condolences on your losses and congrats on your bfp. Good luck

Our 2nd child followed 2 mc's, our 3rd followed 1 mc and this baby (6th) follows 2 mc's too. It is really hard to relax in pregnancy after mc but it does get easier the further you get. I worried constantly in the 1st half but since feeling lots more movement I feel more excitement than worry.

numberthirtytwoWindsorGardens · 02/05/2021 20:01

Thanks, @Chelyanne, and congratulations on your sixth (you have more energy than I do, clearly!). Sorry for your losses - so glad this one looks positive 😊

Sorry for your losses Sad and congratulations ok your new BFP. The early weeks with a pregnancy after a MC are so hard and scary. There is a great pregnancy after loss thread on here that I found so helpful as everyone understands each other in a way that I dont think you can if you've not had a MC. I had an MC at 10+4 in Sept and am now 18 weeks into another pregnancy. Was shit scared until 12 week scan (still anxious now but bearable) and the thread really helped. Wishing you all the very best.

numberthirtytwoWindsorGardens · 02/05/2021 20:08

That's so helpful, @baldafrique, thank you - please could you let me know which section it's in so I can have a look?

Very heartfelt congratulations on your pregnancy and hoping the rest of it is very healthy 😊

Did you have any early bleeding before your last miscarriage? If so, then you can ask to be prescribed progesterone. There’s an infographic here that you can show your GP:

www.tommys.org/sites/default/files/legacy/PRISM%20Infographic_v4_1.pdf

I had three miscarriages and then had DD. Another miscarriage after that and now I’m 18 weeks pregnant.

Good luck.

numberthirtytwoWindsorGardens · 02/05/2021 20:17

Thanks, @Coachee - no, it was a MMC. Everyone keeps telling me it's very common and doesn't mean it will happen again, but the wait yawns ahead ...! Wishing you a healthy pregnancy this time!

It's either in the Pregnancy section or the Birth Clubs section, I think maybe the latter actually. There was one called 'PAL Support' or similar which stands for Pregnancy After Loss. I felt so much more at home there than the standard birth clubs by due date on here which were too terrifying for words!

baldafrique · 02/05/2021 20:17

(Mine was MMC too btw)

Buffyfan26 · 02/05/2021 20:34

@numberthirtytwoWindsorGardens I am newly preg too and have had 2 MMCs before. One before my child and one after. Last time I was super stressed straight away but have decided to try to be a bit more chilled about it this time (easier said than done!!!!) This is the fourth time I’ve been pregnant and have always got pregnant within 2 months. I got pregnant with my child soon after my first miscarriage with no issues. (I was 33 then and I’m 36 now) fingers crossed for both of us x

Buffyfan26 · 02/05/2021 20:35

My last miscarriage was at the start of the year as well x

numberthirtytwoWindsorGardens · 02/05/2021 21:27

Thanks @baldafrique Flowers

@Buffyfan26 So sorry to hear of your losses. I absolutely admire your determination to be chilled - please do share any good strategies you come up with! I know there's nothing to be done yet for weeks and weeks, but somehow I've managed to spend all evening reading pregnancy/miscarriage stories and wondering whether that's a cramp I feel 🤦‍♀️

Studies seem to support taking baby aspirin (81mg) daily to reduce it. My doctor suggested the same after my MMC and I will start taking it as soon as I manage to conceive.

Chanel05 · 02/05/2021 21:45

@numberthirtytwoWindsorGardens sorry to hear of your loss but congratulations!

As other posters have said, a mc is not preventable.

I had my erpc for my mmc two years ago today. I now have a 7 month old dd!

Daffodil21 · 02/05/2021 21:51

Hi @numberthirtytwoWindsorGardens sorry to hear of your loss. Pregnancy after loss really is such a difficult thing to deal with.

This won't be the thread @baldafrique was referring to, even though it is called PAL support, you are more than welcome to join. There's only a couple of us on it, and we're further along than you (I hope that gives you some hope!) but you'll be amongst people who understand!

PAL Support www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/4172683-pal-support

It was started because we were on a miscarriage thread and wanted to move the pregnancy chat away, so that's why it starts quite abruptly!

I'm not aware of another current PAL thread so if anyone knows of one please can you link it :)

Buffyfan26 · 03/05/2021 07:03

@numberthirtytwoWindsorGardens I’m just taking each day as it comes, it’s so early atm. My husband is encouraging me to meditate as well though I don’t find it terribly easy!! Will your EPU scan you early? Mine said to ring at 6 weeks and they will scan at 7 which is good. I had a private scan for my last pregnancy so that’s how I found out about the MMC.

zeromango · 03/05/2021 09:26

@numberthirtytwoWindsorGardens I was advised to keep taking baby aspirin (essentially 75mg) in my last pregnancy and it was the only pregnancy that stuck and now have my lovely DD, had a MC and MMC previously. Speak with your HCP before starting of course but I took it from BFP onwards after lots of research.

Was a bit nervous to tell the midwife and consultant but they didn't bat an eyelid and they said they were going to put me on it at 12 weeks anyway due to clotting and pre eclampsia risks (both of which never happened thankfully!) best of luck OP it's such a nervous time! I'm currently 4+3 weeks and the wait seems so long!

GrandTheftWalrus · 03/05/2021 12:18

Hi OP I had a miscarriage in May 2020. I was meant to be 11+4 but baby had stopped developing at 7+4. However my body didn't let me know so was classed as a missed miscarriage.

I am currently 38+6 and due next week. At the beginning I was terrified of losing it again. So I went for a early scan at 8 weeks and saw the heartbeat. That helped reassure me a bit, I'm still worried.

I found out on 20th May 20 and my original due date for this one was 18th May 21. It got changed to the 11th. But I have a feeling ill have my rainbow very close to the date of my loss.

Anon9990 · 03/05/2021 12:44

Had a miscarriage last jan... pregnant again June, currently looking at my 11 week old baby boy lying sleeping.
Pregnancy after Mc was riddled with anxiety... fear that something would go wrong... but everyone around me tried to tell me to relax but I just couldn’t seem to. Looking back I wish I had and been able to enjoy my pregnancy but we live and learn.

Congratulations on your BFP ❤️

marnh18 · 03/05/2021 13:19

I had a very complicated miscarriage around 9 months ago now and just found out today that i'm pregnant again. Feeling the same as you! Im so worried I'm going to miscarry again, i feel like i can't get excited.

numberthirtytwoWindsorGardens · 03/05/2021 16:04

Oh, everyone, thank you for sharing your stories. All of you who are currently pregnant, I share your anxiety! - and wish us all easy, healthy pregnancies. Those of you who now have lovely babies, congratulations! I hope they are a joy and give you excellent sleep 😉

@marnh18, I think the not getting excited is wise - I keep telling myself not to get invested (as if that's going to work ...). It just feels so scary. Every twinge I think is a miscarriage coming.

@Buffyfan26, I don't know if they'd scan me early. To be honest, I dread going back into that hospital - I had to have a million scans with the miscarriage and it was just awful. I'd prefer to get a private one, I think. Fewer people around to see the results!

@Daffodil21, thank you so much for the thread link - I will definitely have a read!

Flowers to you all.

@numberthirtytwoWindsorGardens I realised after I suggested you join that the people who are on that thread (actually it's sort of just ended up being two of us, but you're welcome to join!) - we met from a thread about recurrent mc, which of course is rare. I just thought i should mention that as I don't want to cause even more anxiety.

The early weeks in particular feel like they go so slowly! I personally had lots of private scans as it was the only thing that kept me vaguely sane. But as the weeks go by time does speed up! X

1986mum · 06/05/2021 17:36

I had a complete miscarriage over Easter now 5 weeks later I tested positive on Tuesday but today I’ve started to spot blood again 😢 so worried and confused right now. I wasn’t expecting to conceive so quickly I’m not sure How I’ll cope if it ends in the same result

rg29811 · 11/05/2021 17:44

Hi all
Hope you don't mind me joining. I also had a Mmc last year in June at 9 weeks (found out at my 12 week scan). It took me a year to get pregnant again and I actually found out the same date that I found out the first time! Weird.

Anyway I'm so anxious it's going to happen again. I haven't really felt nauseous, maybe a bit bloated at night time. And other than that tired but even that's subsiding now. I'm 9 weeks now, I had a early scan at 7 weeks and saw heartbeat. I have a private scan this Friday.

Sad that we can't enjoy pregnancy after mc :( xx

Sarah123xxx · 16/08/2021 11:24
