I was scanned at 13 weeks and the sonographer had a look at potty shot as I asked and she said she thinks boy now I feel this must be right as she's a sonographer ?! BUT is it too early at 13 weeks. Over 90% of people on nub theory pages and in real life and mumsnet have said girl and when I saw the potty shot my thought was girl. Am I crazy to think anyone is going to be correct over a trained sonographer ? Just wondering if anyone else had this and then at 20 week was told the opposite ?

Should add I will be thrilled and grateful for a healthy baby of course the sex doesn't matter I am just asking

I don't know anyone who's been told the wrong sex at 20 weeks. But at 13 weeks - yes I do. (Not me.) Told boy and it was actually a girl.

Sunny1112 · 03/05/2021 13:11

13 weeks is very early to give a definite answer to the gender. I wouldn’t pay attention to it personally.

AhaShakeHeartbreak12 · 03/05/2021 13:16

I'd wait abit longer, it's quite early

Sydneysider76 · 03/05/2021 13:18

Yes. Got told boy but at a later scan corrected to girl

Aria20 · 03/05/2021 13:25

I got told boy at 12+5 with ds2 and they were correct. Got told girl at 15 weeks with dd and was right, but I kept checking at follow up scans as after 2 boys I didn't believe them!

Chitaufree · 03/05/2021 13:34

So what was the point in even trying to find out so early? If you’re just going to doubt what you’ve been told anyway?

TheVolturi · 03/05/2021 13:45

My friend was told girl at 20 week scan, she went and bought everything for a girl, when baby was born it was a boy!

Bad day ? @Chitaufree

Thanks everyone I was just curious that's why I asked I wasn't expecting her to look that early let alone give an answer I would be thrilled with either and I am not claiming to be an expert but the shot looked just like my last baby and soon as I saw I thought girl but obviously they are the professionals

Please use the word sex not gender.

georgarina · 03/05/2021 14:36

I was told the gender early both times and it was right. I was told DS was a boy at 13 week scan, DD this time and sonographer said 'it looks like a girl' at my first scan (11/12 weeks?) but not in a definite way, like she didn't tell me 'you're having a girl,' but it was confirmed at 20 weeks.

mrssunshinexxx · 03/05/2021 14:38

Thanks @georgarina

I had experienced consultant say he was 85% sure DC3 was a girl at 14 weeks. Turned out to be DS3 (correctly identified by same consultant at 20 weeks).

Earlybirdmissedtheworm · 03/05/2021 14:45

I was told the wrong sex at my 20 week scan 😱
Told girl and bought everything pink and fluffy and gave birth to a boy.

mrssunshinexxx · 03/05/2021 14:47

Thanks both @Earlybirdmissedtheworm @hidethexylophone 6 weeks til 20 week scan will see what that brings

If it doesn't matter, asking the sonographer to look and starting two threads really does seem like it matters a great deal.

mrssunshinexxx · 03/05/2021 14:50

Have you anything helpful to add ? @MrsTerryPratchett

This seems a bit of another pointless thread.

mrssunshinexxx · 03/05/2021 14:57

Why comment then ? @user1493494961 honestly the majority of users are helpful. If you don't have anything useful to say why don't you just carry on scrolling I would not dream of just purposefully trying to piss someone off

They told my sister her baby was a boy years back and now he's two-spirit gender, except on Fridays when he is genderqueer although not so much now that the city centre nightlife isn't in full swing. After several years none of the family are quite sure what these genders mean. His sex is make though. Good job something is concrete.

Chitaufree · 03/05/2021 15:03

Bad day?
Not at all thanks
It’s just a bit daft you think you know more than someone who has trained for years at their profession.
Asking them to guess at 13 weeks is daft anyway and you didn’t really answer your question did you because you’re still going to have to be patient

If you don’t want people’s honest opinions, it’s best not to ask strangers on the internet.

And it’s sex, not gender.
