When I was 15 weeks pregnant I only weighed 10st 10lbs I’m 30 weeks just weighed myself and I now weight 14 st 5lbs!! Is this a normal weight I have been eating a little more but I didn’t expect to weigh this much? Will I loose the weight after I have my baby if I breastfeed? If so how long will it take?ShockBlush

Sounds very normal to me, it's not just the baby you are carrying, it's the placenta and water around the baby. One tip is try to breast feed if you can, that will help loose the extra pounds. Lol I breast fed but then put all the weight back on when I stopped.....lockdowns have not helped! Be kind to yourself, your body is creating life! Xx

No guarantee you’ll lose the weight through breastfeeding. I couldn’t shift it until I’d finished breastfeeding and several of my friends said the same. Luck of the draw

That does seem a lot. Have you been measured? Do you have extra amniotic fluid? You only need to eat an extra 400 calories a day so keep that in mind. I second to not relying on breast feeding to lose the weight

It varies by person. Don't worry about weight gain. Some do lose any excess fat stored with breastfeeding, some gain more weight with increased appetite and lack of sleep. Only time will tell what will happen for you.

Thank you so much everyone im just so worried I won’t be able to lose the weight after I’ve had baby as I feel so self conscious and yeah, I’ve been measured but no one said anything about extra fluid ect I guess it’s just because I’ve been eating more and the lockdown hasn’t helped as I haven’t had anywhere to go!

Weight gain is very individual but (unless I'm reading your numbers wrong) 3.5 stone in 15 weeks is quite a lot. Recommended weight gain is approx 1lb a week after 12 weeks. It might be worth keeping an eye on it so you don't keep gaining at this rate. I would agree with others re not relying on breastfeeding to lose the weight. Yes it helps, but the more you gain the more there is to lose. Making some small changes to reduce your calorie intake and trying to keep active will all help, doesn't need to be big changes. You could ask if your midwife can refer you to a dietitian for advice?

mariebaby3 · 01/05/2021 21:39

It depends on your starting BMI. If you were within the healthy range pre pregnancy then up to 16kgs weight gain in total is what is deemed healthy but everyone is different. I would have a chat with the midwife if you’re really worried about it

I was 8 stone 11 before getting pregnant. Now at 38 weeks I'm 13 stone! To be fair, my appetite does go nuts during pregnancy and I feel very sick when hungry. I'll be breastfeeding and I won't try to control my food intake during that time. Try not to worry, you will come up with a weight loss plan when the time is right. In my experience, breastfeeding helps the uterus return to a non pregnant size, but is not guaranteed to help you lose weight. With my last one I got even heavier initially after giving birth, but as soon as I was ready to lose weight, it went fast because I stopped eating galaxy chocolate

I don’t know about anyone else but lockdown wasn’t being kind to my weight before getting pregnant anyway! I’m now eating more and moving less because I’m Wfh and just not getting out as much. Hopefully after the pregnancy I’ll be doing the opposite and eating less and moving more!

Grin good to know I’m not on my own then I feel as if every other person I know who is pregnant still looks their pre pregnancy weight Confused can’t wait to be back to my normal size I feel giant!!
