At what point does pregnancy get hard?

I’m 25 weeks and I have been sooo lucky up til now and have had such an easy time of it, literally to the point I wouldn’t know I was pregnant 99% of the time. My bump doesn’t feel big, I’m not waddling about fed up (like I expected every pregnant person does the whole way through 😂), I really have no bad side effects from it at all! The worst thing that’s happened so far is a few weeks of feeling a bit sick at the start and I now have heartbeat on the odd days. At what point when you were pregnant did it get bad? Or did it not get bad at all? 😊 I’m imagining the combination of being heavily pregnant and having hot weather in June/July will be a bit more difficult but will it be THAT bad?

My first wasn’t really bad at all. The only thing was it was the summer of 2013 and it was insanely hot so it was quite uncomfortable the last few weeks. It probably won’t be this year though.
After having a cute 7lber first time my second baby was 10lb and I was bloody huge. Everything was such hard work. Especially the fact that I had a 2 year old to run after at the same time. I used to get all kinds of looks “jeez are you sure you aren’t going to burst today” etc

Hopefully that won’t happen to you.

@xsjrx haha glad it’s not just me 😂 that’s what I’m like. I have moaned once or twice but none of it has lasted any time at all so day to day I am just normal usually. I would be more worried if I was working right up til he’s due but I’m working from home after 28 weeks then off after 33 so I’m just going to have my feet up taking it easy 😂

@Frazzled2207 oh no 😂 Would be so much harder if I had another child to run about after. I teach young kids so I have enough of them at my work, I couldn’t have one at home too 🙈 crazy their weights can be so different!

Mine were an absolute breeze right up until week 41 when I suddenly had to push an entire human being through my vagina which it turns out is a bit painful.

Poppins2016 · 30/04/2021 23:31

I think some people are just lucky (including me)!

I camped for a long weekend at about 32 weeks pregnant with my first and have booked to do the same at 37 weeks with this pregnancy, no concessions aside from an air bed and proper pillows! Some might say this is optimistic, but I remember feeling that I could have happily camped even when I went overdue last time.

I worked up until 39 +3 with my first and I'm planning to stop at 38 +6 with this baby (desk job, easy commute when not WFH due to the pandemic). I was quite active last pregnancy, lots of gardening and swimming. This time I'm doing the same plus keeping my 2.5 year old entertained (with all the carrying etc. that involves)!

I'd suggest going with the flow. There's no way of knowing how you'll feel later on, but if you feel OK now you might well continue to feel good all the way through.

sarah13xx · 30/04/2021 23:36

@ChekhovsWorkshoppedShooter haha omg no way 🤣 can’t believe this! I’m hoping I won’t get to know how that feels, I think he’s coming at 38 weeks by section due my placenta being too low

@Poppins2016 oh wow, that’s good you weren’t even uncomfortable sleeping near the end! I don’t know if il be camping but I’m hoping I’m still feeling good by then. Don’t need to work right up because il be on holiday from 33 weeks anyway, I think the time might slow down after I’m off work though having nothing else to focus on but at least I don’t need to go into work that heavily pregnant

Two of mine were utterly ghastly with a pregnancy-induced kidney condition that had me spend 1/3 of my last pregnancy in hospital.

I had recurrent uti in #1, uti and pyelonephritis and renal colic in #2 and all of the above plus was treated by kidney stenting in #3. That's not to forget the morning sickness from 6-20 weeks with my girls and spd with all 3.

I don't do pregnancy well. Even though I know dh has had a vasectomy I was glad to hit menopause.

They're 17,19 and 21 now and it was worth every pain, injection, vomiting morning/afternoon/evening.

I knew I'd hit my limit with the vomiting in #1 when it was a Saturday morning, dh was working and after 2 hours of throwing up I was so sick of the sight of the bathroom wallpaper (which was genuinely awful but we couldn't afford to decorate!) that I stripped it all off. Then dh bought paint to fix it and I said I'd do it but the smell of the paint made me vom ...... I was Not Popular!

First pregnancy felt super well and for throughout. Worked up to 40wks in active job- felt strong, able and never waddled.
Second one I was a few years older.
Had a toddler so was active but much less fit. I felt the difference. Felt big at 34weeks and became quite sedentary..

Lalanbaba · 01/05/2021 00:20

Mine never was a difficult pregnancy. Worked up till week 38, full time active job. She was born 38+3. Then it got interesting!

iforgotyourenotbono · 01/05/2021 00:49

Each pregnancy is completely different. My dd was a breeze, my ds wanted me dead from the second he was conceived 😂 I ended up on crutches, hospitalised with blocked kidneys, just the lot. You may be fine throughout! I wouldn't worry at all

GreenSlide · 01/05/2021 01:04

I felt the same at 25 weeks, I was walking on air, everything was brilliant! I'm 28 weeks now and finding myself getting grumpy, I'm having braxton hicks when I walk around or need to pee, I've got pains in my vulva (?!) my legs are cramping constantly and now I'm like fuck this shit! I think some of these problems are second pregnancy problems though - I never had braxton hicks with my first.

Confusedaboutlots · 01/05/2021 01:14

i honestly found pregnancy a breeze until about week 38. i worked in the city commuting until 37 weeks, went to an engagement party at 37 weeks etc- it was all ok. i didn’t feel overly heavy until week 38.

but my baby is 95th percentile for weight and only decided to come out at 41+6. those last 4 weeks i was waddling, had lots of swelling, the itchiest stomach due to skin stretching, and just couldn’t sleep anymore due to how big my bump was, bleeding nostrils and gums, aching hips and carpal tunnel syndrome with my hand.

all symptoms disappeared the minute she was born but they were deeply unpleasant whilst i had them

xsjrx · 01/05/2021 09:17

@sarah13xx ditto I'm normal day to day and I am surprised especially being a FTM at 38! I'm obv lucky and like others say in that I'm working from home but we have been busy with house renovations and supporting my folks etc. I think we'll all be ready for it to be over towards the end but I plan on working for as long as I can lol we'll see how I manage on that .🤣

Dyra · 01/05/2021 11:58
@Dyra oh no, when did you find out you had it? I’m working from home in a few weeks then off from 33 weeks so I’ve timed it really well I think 🙈
The day before I was supposed to go on maternity leave! 😭 I work on the delivery suite, so I went upstairs mid-shift to get checked over, and never came back down again. I didn't get to go back home until a few days after I had my baby. The hospital stay was very surreal. Especially as I felt perfectly fine.

swiftt · 01/05/2021 12:16

You sound similar to me. I thought I was getting away scot-free. No sickness, just a bit tired really. I’m 34 weeks and the past few weeks have really ramped up or me. The waddling has kicked in, everything is exhausting, I’m out of breath just getting up from the sofa. I’ve got PGP and really struggle to just walk at times. I’m expecting it to only get worse for these last few weeks! Fingers crossed you carry on being lucky, but I think the last few weeks for most people must be quite uncomfortable due to sheer extra weight you have to lug around!

AegonT · 01/05/2021 17:23

I found the first trimester horrible both times then it was fine for a while. First pregnancy (aged 30) it stayed easy till late third trimester when I needed to pee hourly night and day, had heartburn and was very uncomfortable. This time (aged 36) it became hard at 20 weeks due to SPD making it very painful to walk then all of the above late third trimester again (except heartburn thanks to Omeprazole).
