At what point does pregnancy get hard?

I’m 25 weeks and I have been sooo lucky up til now and have had such an easy time of it, literally to the point I wouldn’t know I was pregnant 99% of the time. My bump doesn’t feel big, I’m not waddling about fed up (like I expected every pregnant person does the whole way through 😂), I really have no bad side effects from it at all! The worst thing that’s happened so far is a few weeks of feeling a bit sick at the start and I now have heartbeat on the odd days. At what point when you were pregnant did it get bad? Or did it not get bad at all? 😊 I’m imagining the combination of being heavily pregnant and having hot weather in June/July will be a bit more difficult but will it be THAT bad?

@Tetrixxs that’s good to know 😊 it’s looking like he’s going to be a section so will be either 38 or 39 weeks but I’m almost feeling like I’m going to walk in there and not believe them when they hand me a baby that’s been in there all this time 😂

@weareallpassengers oh no, that would totally ruin it for you 🤦🏼‍♀️ I was only sick for about 3 weeks and at most it was twice a day but even that was horrible and I felt like crying while I lay on the bathroom floor feeling sorry for myself but that’s nothing in comparison to HG

I found weeks 6-11 really tough because of nausea and fatigue. I’ve had heartburn pretty much every day since about 14 weeks. Nausea and fatigue comes and goes too, but I’m surprised at how good I’m feeling at 33 weeks. I started maternity leave today so hoping it keeps up. I’m not as big as I expected to be at this stage either which really helps.

YukoandHiro · 30/04/2021 19:37

It's all luck. I had gestational diabetes both times and couldn't eat more than a couple of new potatoes of carb with each meal. I was angry and hungry for nine months. Hated it. Never again.

Flappityflippers1 · 30/04/2021 19:43

Absolutely depends on the pregnancy - I recommend not feeling smug or going on too much about how easy it is OP, I’m sure karma heard me say how great it was the first time round and made up for it the second time!

First pregnancy I breezed - I was Mother Nature herself wafting about in maxi dresses, preparing my home birth and reciting my birth affirmations while doing gentle yoga Grin

Second pregnancy WAS THE PREGNANCY FROM HELL. HG from 6 weeks, severe PNA, hair falling out in clumps, PGP, severe heartburn - you name it, I pretty much had it. Horrible pregnancy.

Funnily enough, first pregnancy was a horrific birth, second was amazing. First baby a piece of cake and still is at 3.5.
New DS is 5 weeks and a fucking nightmare 😳 I’ve already aged more with DS2 then I ever did with DS1 😭

Really is luck of the draw - I hope your pregnancy continues to be a breeze!

When the London heatwave hit and I was commute by tube Grin

AnnaSW1 · 30/04/2021 19:51

Other than that I love being pregnant

Coachee · 30/04/2021 19:52

I felt amazing from 16 weeks until the day I gave birth when I felt a bit ‘off’ which was the start of labour. I didn’t even have heartburn. Birth was a positive experience too. I didn’t find the third trimester difficult - but DD was born at 38+6 so no going overdue and she was a dainty headed 7lber.

I was very active, did lots of yoga and walked miles. This time around I’m old, tired and out of shape and not really feeling so amazing, especially with a demanding three year old in tow.

EssentialHummus · 30/04/2021 19:56

With my first I was fine until 37 weeks or so when I became too big and uncomfortable to sleep well at night.

This time round... I’m expecting twins Grin. I’m still in the first tri but I’ll spare you the details.

Megan2018 · 30/04/2021 19:59

Mine was a doddle all the way through and that included Summer. I have never felt so well as when I was pregnant.
I suppose sleep was a bit harder 3rd trimester but I was still mucking out horses on my due date.

Beamur · 30/04/2021 20:00

I had an easy pregnancy. No sickness.
Mild sciatica for a few weeks that went away was probably the worst bit
Worked until 38 weeks. Feet were a bit swollen and uncomfortable.
Was huge and couldn't pick stuff up off the floor but no waddling! Baby all out front.
Delivery wasn't quite so easy!
Back in my normal clothes in a fortnight.
Had a child who refused to sleep through until she was 14 months old.
You win some you lose some Grin
Flowersfor all the Mums having tough pregnancies.

I think it very much depends on the person. I loved being pregnant on both occasions. Wasn't keen on the nausea in the first trimester and I got slightly uncomfortable towards the end but overall loved being pregnant and didn't want it to end. Enjoy it!

BusySittingDown · 30/04/2021 20:02

It might not get hard! I just got uncomfortable towards the end of both pregnancies. With DD1 I would have been pregnant forever as I really enjoyed it, I just couldn't wait to meet her so desperately wanted her out!

With DD2 I had hip ache, near the end when I'd walked, nothing fit me because I was so huge and I got frustrated at not being able to sleep in certain positions. It wasn't particularly "hard" though, just tiring.

Whatatodooo1 · 30/04/2021 20:04

I had 3 super easy pregnancies, small bumps but big babies Confused which was strange.....,really great births, walked out with a baby each 3 times a couple of hours after giving birth, no issues at all with breastfeeding and my body looked and looks totally normal, I was back in my skinny jeans a week after each birth.
Yup , all this sounds very smug but two of my kids stopped sleeping at 4 months old until 3 /4years old.....
Absolutely nothing worked with one of my children who had severe reflux and still does at 6 years old, I was up every single hour for years and years and nearly lost my mind with sleep deprivation. So I am of the opinion that there are so many up and downs and good and bad stuff with having babies and children. Pregnancy was a total doddle though for me. Hair and skin never looked better , I slept like a log (obviously just with my first!). Good luck op, it's a roller coaster..

RosesAndHellebores · 30/04/2021 20:06

I had easy first, second and third trimesters and relatively easy births. I had incredibly difficult fourth trimesters.

I don't know anyone who has had an easy ride all the way through. I think the fourth trimester is very under recognised particularly amongst the midwives and hvs who are supposed to understand and support. Ime they have neither the capability nor the intellect to support.

sarah13xx · 30/04/2021 20:11

@TangledNemo that’s good 🥳 I’m starting working from home in a few weeks then will be off after 33 weeks on holiday before mat leave starts so I’m not worrying about waddling about work at least 😂

sarah13xx · 30/04/2021 20:12

@RosesAndHellebores oh no 😞 yeah I have heard of some very unhelpful ones, it’s just your luck who you get

OP posts:
sarah13xx · 30/04/2021 20:14

@Whatatodooo1 haha thank you! Yeah I think you do seem to get your luck in one way or another 🙈 that sounds really hard going! I thought sleeping would be hard when pregnant but have found it totally fine, might not be saying that when it’s roasting

geezahoose · 30/04/2021 20:14

The worst I got was toward the end, mainly heartburn, constipation, gas, and that suffocating feeling if I attempted to recline on my back. It's different for everyone though.

110APiccadilly · 30/04/2021 20:15

In my case, 38 weeks, when my waters broke! I had a really easy pregnancy (though a difficult birth and first few weeks of motherhood, so it's not all been plain sailing!)

Woodpecker22 · 30/04/2021 20:16

I had 2 really easy pregancies and in fact felt better and with more energy that when I wasn't pregnant. I think I could do with the pregnancy hormones on a permanent basis.

BikeRunSki · 30/04/2021 20:16

Weeks 6-20 were rough with HG, final trimester was marvellous. I felt like I had superpowers.

LittleLionMan23 · 30/04/2021 20:19

Around 28-30 weeks, both times. First trimester was tiredness and some nausea (no vomiting) second was a breeze. As soon as I hit 3rd, it gets physically tough. Feeling heavy, in pain with PGP, exhausted, not able to walk more than half a mile (when not pregnant I can easily walk 5m without breaking a sweat) and just the general strain on the body feels overwhelming. Currently 35weeks with my 2nd and getting very fed up.

Had terrible heartburn with both, but prescription Omeprazole makes it completely disappear. There’s no need to suffer unnecessarily, speak to your GP if you’re finding anything really unbearable!

eensyweensySpider · 30/04/2021 20:19

I was like you, OP! No symptoms whatsoever. Never sick, no nausea, no big boobs, no feet swelling. But I had a breach baby from 32 weeks who's head was wedged between my ribs and he didn't move from that position from then on. Meaning my stomach was pushed more and more upwards as the weeks went on and my heartburn was unbearable from 35+. I cried most days and was absolutely unable to towel my legs, pull trousers up, tie my shoe laces etc as I physically could not bend down from his head. But that was only due to DSs positioning so if your baby drops, you could be lucky all the way to the end. It doesn't necessarily need to be a hard thing so just enjoy :) x

Whatatodooo1 · 30/04/2021 20:30

Yea I found I slept amazingly when pregnant, really deep, restorative sleep and no, getting up to pee a few times wasn't good preparation for the baby waking Grin
