Hi all. I know this is going to be a very divided chat. But I'm wondering what everyone's views are on being pregnant and having the vaccine? I really didn't want to have it done and i haven't been called for it yet as I'm 33. Previously had a miscarriage so this time round I'm even more skeptical of things. I'm now wondering whether I should get it when I'm asked. It's a hard one isn't it

@8dpwoah glad to hear all went well. What’s the reasoning for paracetamol instead of taking your aspirin? I did wonder if I ended up with a temperature if I’d be able to take paracetamol as well as my 2 x 75mg aspirin a night x

BabyC21 · 15/05/2021 21:57

You shouldn’t take paracetamol before you have any side effects as it can impact the vaccines efficacy. If you get side effects then it’s fine to take as the vaccine has already started working in your system, for what it’s worth I take aspirin every night (prescribed by doctor for pregnancy) and when I need it I’ll take paracetamol. I don’t substitute one for another. Low dose aspirin does not provide pain relief

MintGreenLife · 15/05/2021 22:04

@BabyC21 I’m guessing it’s ok to continue with aspirin after the jab though? I’m also taking on my Midwife’s recommendation to reduce risk of preeclampsia due to family history.

8dpwoah · 15/05/2021 22:53

My thinking was just to take paracetamol if I felt like I was going to feel ropey in the night but I feel fine at the moment 🙂 I'm also on low dose aspirin for pregnancy blood flow reasons but I'd have skipped it tonight if I'd had paracetamol as both of them make me feel a little sick by themselves so didn't want the power of two!

Nurse said absolutely no reason to avoid aspirin as normal so I've taken that. I did think the paracetamol being a bad thing before symptoms was a myth but I forget why I think that?

MintGreenLife · 16/05/2021 10:07

@8dpwoah thanks, I will carry on with my aspirin as normal then ☺️

8dpwoah · 16/05/2021 15:04

Happy to report all good here, no problems other than my arm bring irritatingly achey, but absolutely fine so far.

BristolEm · 16/05/2021 16:44

@8dpwoah which vaccine did you have?

Allicit · 16/05/2021 17:11

I had my Pfizer first dose today. Was a nervous wreck before hand but so far so good. Baby has been kicking which helped a little I think. Arm slightly sore but that’s it. I did take some paracetamol for something else though so hard to say!

MyBabyBoyBlue · 16/05/2021 17:23

I had my first Pfizer shot on Friday (34w pregnant) and just had a sore arm and slight headache.

8dpwoah · 16/05/2021 18:24
@8dpwoah which vaccine did you have?
Pfizer, was the only one on offer as I was done with under 40s at the GP-led clinic so that made things easier!

I'm led to believe the second Pfizer might be a bit rougher than the first because of how it works but we'll find out in a few weeks I guess!

mariebaby3 · 16/05/2021 19:12

Just had my first dose of Moderna. They were really lovely down the vaccine centre and had a good chat about everything before hand. So far just a sore arm, hoping it doesn’t get much worse than that!

BristolEm · 23/05/2021 11:19

Hi all, just to let you know I had Moderna yesterday afternoon, feeling fine so far other than feeling like someone has punched me in the arm really hard! Will be 6 weeks tomorrow so was worried vaccine would make me feel extra dizzy and nauseous as they're common symptoms but doesn't feel any worse at the moment.

Loubun38 · 23/05/2021 14:00

I'm 9+2 and so undecided about vaccine. I work in a school so am around lots of children, parents and other staff members. My thinking now is to wait until I've had my dating scan (which I have still not had a date for) so out of first trimester and then get scan booked. Anyone in a similar position?

Nashsophie13 · 23/05/2021 17:59

@Loubun38 I am the same as well, I’m a week behind you but I saw my midwife last week and although she said she’s very pro vaccine because of her profession she asked me what I wanted to do and I said not to have it especially not yet and she said don’t have it then 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ So that hasn’t really helped me make my mind up either. It’s tricky to decide something like this isn’t it x

Loubun38 · 23/05/2021 18:42

@Nashsophie13 it really is a tough one. As I say my initial thought was not to have it due to the lack of research around it however I think I will now book it for second trimester due to vulnerabilities of being in a school and also to protect me (and hopefully baby) in third trimester when effects can be worse. All the best whatever your decision Smile

Nashsophie13 · 23/05/2021 19:23

@Loubun38 I’m thinking I might change my mind as the pregnancy goes on because I’m a hairdresser so have close contact but will see. Best of luck with you too ❤️ X

They gave me a leaflet that had all the same information that's on this page: www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-vaccination-women-of-childbearing-age-currently-pregnant-planning-a-pregnancy-or-breastfeeding/covid-19-vaccination-a-guide-for-women-of-childbearing-age-pregnant-planning-a-pregnancy-or-breastfeeding. From our discussion we concluded the risks of getting Covid in 3rd trimester were worse than getting vaccine in the 1st but it's definitely not an easy decision to make as there's so little data still.

MammaBell · 25/05/2021 21:53

Hi all, I am so grateful to find this thread as I have been agonising over what to do now that I have received my letter to get my first dose next week. One thing I can't seem to see much about is the whooping cough vaccine and timing between having that and the covid vaccine. I had my whooping cough vaccine last week so I'm wondering is there a certain time period to wait for the covid vaccine incase there are any conflict between the two? I am 20 weeks, 35 yrs old, and been on the 2x75mg daily aspirin since 12 weeks like some of you. It's been really helpful to read that there has been advice that continuing with the aspirin as normal as been given out by midwifes. Today when I called mine she did not want to entertain or discuss anything...each time I asked a question she told me to go to the RCOG website, but it I couldn't find anything about aspirin...nor about the whooping cough vaccine and any potential interaction or conflict depending on timing between the two. On the day I am booked for my vaccine will be exactly 14 days since I got the whooping cough vaccine x.

Smurftastic · 25/05/2021 22:08

@MammaBell when I was having my vaccine they asked if you've had any other ones in the past 7 days, so I think you should be ok. I had Pfizer.

PlanetSmurf · 25/05/2021 22:33

@MammaBell I had that conflict with the whooping cough vaccine too and here in the US they advise 14 days between the Covid vaccine and any other vaccinations, so I just had to have my whooping cough vaccination a week later than I was scheduled to.

EastLondonArtist · 25/05/2021 23:15

I think it's worth having the vaccine if you are high risk for covid, i.e. mixing with lots of people, managing a people facing job or likely to have complications (due to being overweight, lack of vitamin D, etc.) There's a higher risk of complications in the 3rd trimester and there is also evidence the child to vaccinated mothers is born with some immunity. I also don't know of any vaccines ever being linked to issues with children - except for the MMR autism rumour which turned out to be nonsense. Does anyone know of any vaccines to cause later issues?

However, I am 17 weeks pregnant and have decided not to have the vaccine. There aren't many studies and none which have yet reached developmental age of the child then born. I do mix with a lot of people and live in central London but otherwise I would say low risk in terms of getting severe symptoms. I also think I had covid in March 2020 which has given me more confidence I may not catch it again or that if I do - I didn't react very adversely the first time.. and know what to expect so think I can cope with the known risk over the unknown risks Hmm

Sorry that's not very helpful! I'd get it if you're scared of covid and I'm sure it's fine, wait 2 weeks in between any other vaccine. If you decide against the vaccine keep your vitamin D levels up!

PM985 · 25/05/2021 23:54

Very thankful to come across this thread as I am facing this dilemma too.

As of just last week I am now eligible for the vaccine however after 2 failed IVF cycles we finally had some luck and are now at week 4.

I had always planned on getting the vaccine as I don’t believe I have had covid (was shielding throughout IVF treatment) but am now seriously considering waiting until further along (at least 12 weeks) to prevent any harm at all... like some of you.

Fertility clinic are pointing us to RCOG and not really providing a recommendation either. They suggested I speak with my GP so I will likely do that for another opinion.

It’s such a hard decision!

8dpwoah · 26/05/2021 11:59

@mammabell when I had my Pfizer I was advised to give it a week before having my whooping cough jab so that should be fine. She asked me about blood thinners and I told her aspirin and why, she said she only needed to know because of holding the swab on the vaccine site a little bit longer as it could take a shade longer to stop bleeding 🙂

Mashagirl93 · 26/05/2021 20:00

Lots of pregnant women don't want the vaccine and it's understandable. I'm personally not going to let anyone try and make me feel Guilty for not getting it.

shadesofblack · 26/05/2021 20:06

@Mashagirl93 well this ain't the right thread for you then, OP's situation is different and your comment isn't any helpful!
