Hi all. I know this is going to be a very divided chat. But I'm wondering what everyone's views are on being pregnant and having the vaccine? I really didn't want to have it done and i haven't been called for it yet as I'm 33. Previously had a miscarriage so this time round I'm even more skeptical of things. I'm now wondering whether I should get it when I'm asked. It's a hard one isn't it

I had the Pfizer vaccine at 17 and 28 weeks (aged 42 but had it through work as HCP). It was a relief as I was quite high risk in terms of exposure at work and also have a few underlying health issues.

Kirky658 · 30/04/2021 16:03

Really good post, thanks for sharing OP. I'm 27 years old, have mild asthma, otherwise very healthy. I'm 20+4. Having my whooping cough next week. I'm very much on the fence about my vaccine. It's unlikely I will be called till end of July ish due to my age anyway, due mid September, so I'm considering delaying till then. I can comfortably work from home till going on mat leave and can fairly easily socially distance etc.

This helped me make my decision

Nashsophie13 · 01/05/2021 18:01

Thank you everyone for your answers, you've been very helpful I will gather as mush information as I can before I make my decision. Hope you are all ok x

I had my first dose of Pfizer before I fell pregnant, I'm 5 weeks now and due my second dose in a week or two, and I'm really unsure as what to do, we have been trying for so many years and it's the first time I have ever gotten pregnant so I don't want something to go wrong 😞 i think at least I've had my first so slightly protected

Nashsophie13 · 01/05/2021 19:39

@Chloejaynexx congratulations, it’s such a tough choice to make isn’t it, have you spoke to a medical professional about whether you can have your 2nd one soon or not? Completely understand how you feel this way. I’m the same I haven’t had any jabs yet and I think I’m about 4/5 weeks pregnant just wanted to know what to do before I get called for one but I’m still unsure myself x

I know it's such a tough decision! I've not spoken to anyone yet no, I'm diabetic aswell so in the vulnerable category but have my review next week so will probably ask them about it x

mrssunshinexxx · 01/05/2021 20:03

Hi @Chloejaynexx am I right in thinking you have the Pfizer doses 3 weeks apart?

Nashsophie13 · 01/05/2021 20:03

@Chloejaynexx hopefully that will make the decision clearer for you babe. Let me know how it goes x

PinkOrchidDream · 01/05/2021 20:23

I've already had one Pfizer already. I attended an online seminar about the vaccine and feel happy I've made the right choice.

MyBabyBoyBlue · 01/05/2021 20:41

I'm in group 6 and now the guidance has changed to say pregnant women should be offered it, I have booked myself in. However, I'm still very much on the fence about having such a new technology while pregnant and not knowing how or if it might cross the placenta and cause issues in the baby. I'm in the third trimester and wondering whether I should just hold off now but then I think if I caught covid and was very ill and the baby was affected too, I would never forgive myself. I think it's a massive leap of faith either way and a pretty impossible choice given it can't be a fully informed choice at this stage. So difficult.

Nashsophie13 · 01/05/2021 20:53

@MyBabyBoyBlue couldn’t agree with you more it’s a tricky one, and tee can only make our own decisions can’t we, sometimes that’s what’s bloody harder isn’t it x

OP posts:
MyBabyBoyBlue · 01/05/2021 20:57

@Nashsophie13 absolutely - I want someone to tell me definitively either have it or don't, but obviously nobody can do that!

mariebaby3 · 01/05/2021 21:09

I’m really confused about it and keep flipping between yes and no. I watched the pregnant then screwed webinar which was great but I’m still not 100% convinced as they’re only going by the information that they have so far and it’s all so new. My midwife couldn’t advise me and said she could with something like whooping cough as it’s been around for years and years but the covid vaccine is so new and would have to be a personal choice. I’m coming up to 29 weeks now but my group are starting to be called up so I imagine in the next couple of weeks I will be too. I work from home, and have managed to go this long being extra safe so part of me feels that what’s another 10 weeks?

Aozora13 · 01/05/2021 21:17

My midwife said to me it’s personal choice but she’d strongly recommend it. I had long covid last year and I honestly don’t know if I could live through that again never mind while pregnant. I’m booked for next week when I’m 19 weeks, but am actually going to call up and check which vaccine they’re offering as hadn’t realised it should be Pfizer/Moderna for pregnant women. But everyone has a different risk profile and appetite.

Manetamer · 01/05/2021 22:57

Hi, I’ve read through a lot of these chats and was just wondering if anyone is concerned about the effects the vaccine may have on the baby? I’m 15 weeks and was due my vaccine in February due to a previous health condition, I haven’t had it yet and really unsure what to do??

Chloejaynexx · 01/05/2021 23:32

@mrssunshinexxx hi! No it's still 12 weeks, I had my first 22nd feb and still not had my 2nd x

MyBabyBoyBlue · 01/05/2021 23:51

@Manetamer I am concerned about side effects for the baby but am also concerned about what effect Covid might have on the baby. In the end, it'll come down to your personal choice based on an assessment of the risk vs benefit of having the vaccine and that's something a GP or midwife should talk to you about (although I am yet to be able to talk to either of mine!!). Whichever decision you make will come with a risk (the risk.of the vaccine being as yet unknown long term implications of having the vaccine when pregnant, if any and the risk of covid being the unknown of how it will affect you personally and if it affects you severely what the outcome would be for the baby) because we are dealing with both a new disease and a new vaccine. It's a really tough call but ultimately you need to go with your gut based on the available information.

For what it's worth, I found the ROCG information and the American CDC website quite useful in explaining how the mRNA vaccines work. Also the New England Medical Journal has published the side effects so far experienced by pregnant women and the outcomes of the pregnancies (where there have been outcomes).

mrssunshinexxx · 02/05/2021 07:09

@Nashsophie13 same but no one wants to be held accountable do they! X

@Chloejaynexx oh online I read 21 or 29 days apart ?? X

peanutbutterandfluff · 02/05/2021 08:14

@Seahawk80 I am I the same position as you! 5 weeks pregnant and age 40. It’s so hard to know what’s right! I was planning to wait until the 2nd trimester and after I’d actually had my booking in appointment and talked to the midwife (who knows when that will be, with my first it wasn’t until 10 weeks).

Glad to find someone else in the same situation! It’s so tricky. I work with the public (have been the whole time) and my kid goes to nursery, we use public transport in London, my partner works in retail (but is vaccinated already)...so higher risk all round. But I just have that little niggle that knows if I do get the vaccine earlier and miscarry that I will just blame myself!

peanutbutterandfluff · 02/05/2021 08:16

Also it seems daft that they recommend Pfizer or Modena but there is no way to choose when you book?!?

Chloejaynexx · 02/05/2021 09:27

@mrssunshinexxx yes 3 weeks is what Pfizer recommends but the government chose to extend all vaccines to 12 weeks apart so they can vaccinate more people quicker Hmm

DottyDotty91 · 02/05/2021 10:34

It’s a personal choice and there’s no right or wrong you have to do what you think is best

I’m only 30, I’m a nurse but there’s no way I’m having it done. I’ll wait until after I give birth.

BabyC21 · 02/05/2021 10:46

I got my first jab at 22 weeks and due 2nd next week at 26 weeks.
I’m in Ireland, pregnant women have now been made a priority category here as unfortunately we have had a number of stillbirths associated with the B117 strain since January that we did not have last year. This isn’t to scare anyone, the numbers are still very small but much higher than the reported blood clots so definitely something our doctors and government have now taken notice of (roughly 6 in 12.500). Everyone should make an informed decision by speaking to medical professionals but also please read the guidance from your health authority (or other European ones). As often midwives or doctors are not up to speed with the latest as it changes so often, and also they may let their personal rather than professional beliefs be portrayed.

BabyC21 · 02/05/2021 10:47

Just to add, in Ireland the guidance is that you should only have the jab between 14-36 weeks
