When will my partner be able to attend scans?

Hello all!

I am 5 weeks 5 days with my first!

I am wondering if there is a date when partners are allowed to come to scans? Kind of hoping that by my 12 week scan it will be okay for him to attend with me?

Does anyone know?

In my NHS trust, partners are allowed to attend now.

Congrats Thanks

I think it’s on a trust by trust basis - my DH hasn’t attended scans because he has had to care for DS. But in my trust partners have been allowed to attend scans and midwife appointments throughout. I’m 31 weeks now so this was during the third lockdown. So probably just best check with your hospital trust as to their specific policy.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

They were supposedly allowed to come since December 2020 according to national guidelines by the RCOG, but each trust has done their iwn thing. It's a bit of a postcode lottery. Best to check with your local unit.

My letter said my husband wasn't allowed, but we thought he was because we had a scan before then which he was allowed to. I called to check and they said he was allowed, despite the letter saying he wasn't!

I had a scan today . I went alone but I saw two couples where the partners couldn’t attend the scan because they didn’t have proof of a negative COVID test in the last 48 hours

Thank you all. I will check before my next scan :) thank you

My sister had her 12 week scan the other day and her husband was allowed in.

My trust are allowing partners but they are asking for proof of a recent negative lateral flow test. We’ve ordered some well in advance.
This bit of info was hidden on a loose piece of paper in the pack of notes/bumpf I was given at 8 week bloods appointment. They mentioned partners being allowed but not the testing so glad I read everything thoroughly!

It varies by trust.
Our hospital has a large sonography department so partners are welcome at the standard scans. They have little 2 seat pods in the waiting area and a screen between the bed and guests chair in each scanning room. EPAU do not allow you to take anyone though.

Very dependent on the trust. I am based in Oxfordshire and our hospital as of the 19th of April are allowing partners to attend all appointments. No lateral flow tests or PCR required but clearly not allowed in if either of us has any covid symptoms.

I have two scans next week so I'm glad the guidance has changed.

You should be able to find the guidance on the trust's website. Partners were allowed to scans throughout this pregnancy, and from 12th April they've been allowed to attend other appointments too with proof of a negative lateral flow test - I found this out from the website, but you can always call the scanning department nearer the time to check to see what rules are in place, I suppose.

My husband has been allowed to scans all through my pregnancy. Albeit only the last 5 minutes of them. Only very recently has he been allowed in for the full thing. It varies massively with each trust.

NinaMimi · 30/04/2021 10:25

My partner has been allowed in for all scans for full time from December until now. I guess I’m really lucky.

SillyBry · 30/04/2021 11:08

You will probably be told on your scan letter when it comes through. My trust allows partners to come to the 12 week scan (literally just for the scan - they have to leave when you have bloods etc). But not allowed in to any emergency, early or 20 week scans.

queenatom · 30/04/2021 11:12

Partners have been able to attend scans in our trust since at least December, and as of a couple of weeks ago they can attend all antenatal appointments (if they wish!) They are also allowed to come to scans at the EPAU. Partners are advised to take a lateral flow test but it says nothing about needing to provide evidence of same.
