Hi

Iv my first private scan next Saturday and I'm feeling very anxious about it.

I had a missed miscarriage last year and I didn't find out untill my 12 week scan in the hospital I'm very nervous incase I see the same thing again. Even tho I still have all my symptoms I'm still very nervous 😟

I'm sorry for your loss and congratulations on your new pregnancy Flowers

How many weeks will you be for the private scan?

AmySH1267 · 29/04/2021 11:52

I'll be 9 weeks my doctor told me that's a good time to go for the first one

Agree that 9wks is a good time for an early pregnancy scan. I think it's very normal to feel anxious after loss. I'm 16wks pregnant after 3 mcs/mmcs and had early scans at 4, 6, 8 & 10 weeks and felt really anxious before each one. I sometimes think allowing yourself to feel what is normal in your situation is better than ignoring it. That being said, the odds are always in your favour and the chances of there being something wrong is low.

Are you allowed to have someone with you at the scan for support? Do tell the sonographer of your history before they start. I found they were quicker to tell me there was a heartbeat, as any long silences just brought back the experience of having an MMC confirmed.

I was exactly the same, don't think the nerves ever go. I have had 3 scans now - private at 9 weeks, NHS at 11 and 13 weeks (couldn't get screening measurements at 11 weeks so had to go back) but still nervous now at 15+4, tempted to book another private scan next week.

It is horrible what MMC does to you, totally takes the innocence out of early pregnancy :(

But all my scans have been fine, I have had sweaty palms before going in because I've been that nervous! But all fine. I am sure everything will be great for you - especially as you have symptoms x

Thank you.

Yeah I really hope so I just can't shake this anxious feeling 🥺 I'll have my Fiancè with me for the scan this time and I'm glad cuz telling him our baby was gone last year really hurt.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I've had an ectopic pregnancy and have the same anxiousness as you. But I also remember my first pregnancy being the same... worrying in the lead up to a scan that maybe there was nothing there, maybe I'd imagined it, what if something had gone wrong.
I think the lack of being able to "see" everything is ok makes it an anxious time for us. A scan at 9 weeks sounds ideal - it should reassure you and not be long until your 12 week scan now.
I was convinced this time that I'd feel ok once I'd had a placement scan (required in early pregnancy due to previous ectopic), but then I was like well I'll feel better when I get to 12 weeks. Got to 12 weeks and thought cool, but I'll still feel anxious til 20 weeks!!! I'm now 21 weeks and feel some movements and generally feel like I could go out and buy some babygrows etc... but I think we just worry about what we can't control.
I would say try and enjoy some hobbies - pick up a book or do some exercise, something to keep your mind busy in those early months and hopefully before you know it, you'll be further along the road. :-)
