Early pregnancy and Batholin’s Cyst

Hi everyone

I’ve had what I’ve been told is a Bartholin’s cyst for years now and it’s not bothered me other than being an obvious lump. I’ve just found out I’m pregnant (very early days) with my second but for my last couple of periods it’s been quite uncomfortable (not infected or like a abscess, just it’s quite large and feels a bit strange and sort of in the way?). It also feels like it’s in my inner bum cheek.

Anyone experienced this? Most internet searches talk about what to do when it abscesses.

I’ll mention it to my GP but just wondered if anyone had had similar.

I’m 21 weeks and have had a bartholins cyst since my last pregnancy in 2019. My consultant has said they generally won’t treat it during pregnancy unless it becomes infected. It has fluctuated in size from the start of my pregnancy but luckily no infection. They said to just keep an eye on it and there is every chance it may burst when I give birth or if I have another csection they would treat it at the same time.

Thanks for the reply @Babyshep. I had a section last time so if I had another it would be amazing if they could sort it out at the same time.

Can I ask a really TMI question? Where can you feel yours? Because when I Google it looks more like they are really close to the vagina but mine feels a bit further around/deeper into where my leg crease/bum cheek is.

The dr said mine was 5cmx5cm kind of size so it does feel like it’s quite deep due to the size. I would mention it to your consultant when you first see them. Get them to have a look at the size and location then they can make a plan and potentially treat it after birth for you.
