12 week scan at 10 weeks

Hi guys,

I am looking for some advice.

I have a 12 week dating scan on Thursday . Based on LMP I would be 12 weeks but I am actually going to be 10 weeks based on my ovulation tracking ( I have very long cycles ) and confirmed by private scan last weekend.

I am glad for the opportunity to see baby again but I guess when they scan and realise I’m 10 weeks , they will ask me to go back in 2 weeks for another scan and the combined screening ?

Do you think I should contact the hospital to move the scan or will they want to do the scan on Thursday to check the dates for themselves ?

I am
Not sure what to do . I don’t want to waste an appointment.

They go off your last period not ovulation.
Do you mean your actually measuring 10 weeks and not 12?

Hi ,

Yes so the scan on Saturday measured at 9 weeks which does line up with what I expected based on ovulation / temp tracking .

Unless I’m missing something, your due date is based off LMP nothing to do with ovulation.
Keep the scan appointment if they think your measuring earlier they’ll sort.

Ah okay ! Thanks , I will just go to it and see what they say :)

When I went for my first scan (at what we thought was 12 weeks) I was only measuring 9+6 so they booked me in for 3 weeks later for the proper screening as baby was too small to get all the measurements etc.

Bonus you get to see baby twice in a short time!

This exact thing happened to me. They estimate off LMP but if your cycles are irregular that leads to them misestimating. They'll just get you to come back 2 weeks later.

Although it's called a "12 week scan" it can be done any time from 10 weeks to 14 weeks, so I wouldn't worry too much.

If you're earlier than this and they can't see much, they'll ask you to go back

buckingmad · 27/04/2021 22:32

This was exactly the same for me. I knew I’d measure behind and I did! So bad to go back a week later as baby has to measure at least 45mm and mine was smaller. Got to see baby twice in a week though!

Yes you are missing something in that some people's cycles aren't the "standard". So did giving birth 19months ago and still breastfeed I had two periods. One in December and one in Feb. I am not 9 weeks pregnant but if o listened to you, you'd think I'm 11. I'm not. I ovulated 4 weeks after my period and not two weeks. Op has said she knows when she ovulated and that is also a good marker (you just add two weeks onto that date)

@Horehound ffs 😂😂 take a chill
