Hi, long story short, I rang my drs on Friday because I’m going to toilet more frequently and having a pain low in my stomach when weeing or feeling the need to wee, so I did a urine sample and she told me that I have a suspected water infection but wanted to send the sample off so did all that, rang today results came back but wanted to me to do another urine sample to send off so I’ve done that just now so won’t get results until about Wednesday now earliest but I’m panicking that I have one as suspected because of when she dipped my urine and I’ve been here all weekend with an infection and have to wait nor further for these results to come back and it’s been left a long time about 5 days by Wednesday untreated and I’m panicking a bit!
Any advice or anyone been through the same situation? Thanks.

It took my midwife two months to call me about a water infection found in my booking appt sample. I then had to give another sample (which showed the infection was still there) and I was prescribed antibiotics, so it was quite a long time before anything was done about it. I wasn't particularly pleased because during pregnancy a UTI can spread to your kidneys.
They don't want to give you antibiotics unnecessarily when you're pregnant, so it makes sense that if your first sample was inconclusive they would want you to repeat it to be sure, but I would say keep an eye on your symptoms and if they get worse, ask your GP again to prescribe some antibiotics while you wait for the second test results - and make sure you drink plenty.

UTIs are reasonably common in pregnancy so try not to worry, just spend your time drinking lots. Cranberry juice has some benefits so if you don’t mind the taste it’d be a good choice.
As pp said they don’t want to prescribe antibiotics unnecessarily and are probably making doubly sure there is bugs in your urine sample.
Take care of yourself

@Shreddedwheaties if you're sure it's a UTI I would push to get the antibiotics you need. I suffered with cystitis in the first trimester with my first and all the tests came back normal but as someone who suffers with chronic cystitis I knew exactly what it was and pushed to get antibiotics. I ended up having to be prescribed 2 different types of antibiotics as the first course didn't work.

I think you know your body best and there are antibiotics that are perfectly safe for pregnancy, so there's no reason why you shouldn't be prescribed them.

As others have mentioned do drink plenty of water, but sometimes that's not enough to get rid of the infection.

Good luck!

I’m very surprised they didn’t give you antibiotics if it was positive on the dip test, as that’s what they usually do as they don’t like to leave it in pregnancy. However I wouldn’t have thought 5 days was a long time, like a PP said some people have them for weeks or months in pregnancy. If it gets worse I’d defo call again though.
