Aspirin from 12 weeks to prevent preeclampsia

My midwife has informed me I need to take 75mg a day of aspirin from 12 weeks pregnant as my mum had preeclampsia with my younger sister, which apparently makes me higher risk for getting it during my pregnancy.
If you've had to do this do you get a doctor to prescribe it for you? Or did you just buy it? I'm not sure they even do 75mg in shops/pharmacies. Thanks in advance

I just buy it - can get 75mg most places Smile

Hi, congratulations. I’m taking aspirin due to my mum having pre eclampsia with me. After my 12 week scan (where I was actually 13 weeks) my doctor automatically prescribed me enough aspirin for the whole pregnancy, I just got contacted to collect it and I got it the day after my scan.

You can buy 75mg, it’s stupidly cheap. You can get it prescribed but it’s so cheap and readily available I’d just buy it.

Brill thanks everyone! I did think it was a waste of time getting it prescribed on the nhs when it's so cheap anyway. I'll see what they say at my scan next week.

Hi OP! Im 36 weeks, been taking aspirin since 11 weeks because I had early onset preeclampsia in my last pregnancy and delivered at 30 weeks.

I take 150mg. I buy the 75mg ones from tesco. My consultant did prescribe them but I cant stomach the ones you have to dissolve in water and drink, so I buy the ones you just swallow.

I'm convinced they've prevented me getting preeclampsia this time, so they've been well worth it.
Good luck 😊

I ahave been taking 150mg aspirin a day since ovulation.

I’m currently 18+4 and have been told to keep taking it until around 36 weeks due to my blood pressure being raised.

I just buy boxes of the 75mg ones and take 2 a day.
