NHS maternity pay calculator

Does anyone know of a good site to help calculate maternity pay. I know it is X amount of weeks full pay etc but I want to understand it in context of my salary.

I work for the NHS and our HR department is awful and I really struggle to get answers.

Appreciate any help anyone can offer.

It didn’t get mine exactly right but was close enough to give me a better idea than pay toll would do. The equalise option on the calculator isn’t right though- doesn’t account for fact that your SNP can’t be equalised. Or if didn’t seem to for me anyway

Thanks for sharing the website - I’m local authority and our HR/Payroll cannot give a forecast of earnings. The calculator has really helped with the planning.

Sorry I know this is a fairly old post but I'm just wondering when you have to choose how long you want off for maternity and if you want your payments split equally or not? I'm very early in my pregnancy so loads of time to think about it but would just like an idea x

@Tiredandobsessed if it helps I just got my estimates through a couple of days ago and I am £2000 a year better off if I take 52 week option over 39 week option because of the way it’s taxed. So same smp/omp but less tax so more money in my pocket monthly. I decided to go for it. A year feels like an awfully long time but I guess why not! I also hope the nhs will easier be able to get mat cover for me as a year cover rather than 9 months cover

What I was trying to ask (but probably worded wrongly 🤦🏼‍♀️) was when do you have to make the decision of when to start mat leave, how long to have off etc. Is it after the 25th week or have made that up? x

@Tiredandobsessed technically you have to submit your matb1 and application for maternity by 25 weeks at the latest. You’re supposed to get your form at your 20 week but I got mine later and submitted it a couple of days before my 25 weeks and it was fine. The application is the bit with the dates etc where you say when you want to go etc but I think you can change your mind it’s not set in stone. It’s more declaring intentions I think.

The NHS OH mat pay is
8 weeks full pay
18 weeks half pay + SMP
13 weeks SMP

Is this correct? Or is the 18 weeks half pay not include SMP

I'm abit confused, I work for an nhs gp surgery so does that mean I can get the nhs maternity pay and smp or just smp? Please help it's so confusing x

My half pay includes SMP (as does my full pay) but I don't work for the nhs

You should get 8 weeks full pay, 18 weeks at 50% plus SMP, 13 weeks SMP only, then final 13 weeks (if you choose) is unpaid

Thanks, I'll have to speak to my hr manager as our sops don't mention that but I work for the nhs and get an nhs pension so hopefully that will qualify me to get nhs maternity. It's such a minefield x

I didn’t get mine until post 25 weeks (25 week appointment with midwife) but I had told work and told them I wish to claim before this. You don’t need to submit the form until 28 days before you wish to claim.

Can I ask what band you were on for you’re maternity prediction please? X
