Sweep at 37+2

Has anyone had a sweep at 37 weeks. Seeing my midwife tomorrow at 37+2 being induced at 38 weeks as baby is off the centile chart, I've already had two large babies
I've been having such bad braxtons since 26 weeks and was on co codamol but stopped two weeks ago and the braxtons are unbearable
I just want her out. I'm not sleeping as the pains are so bad.
Is my midwife allowed to do a sweep tomorrow at 37+2

Thanks in advance

Hi @MummaT84. Oh you’re getting close! I had a sweep at 37 weeks - I was consultant led so not sure if that matters. They didn’t want me going over and said baby would be ok to be born at 37 weeks. I then had another at 38, 39 and 39+4! Goodluck - hope all goes well x

So do you think if I ask tomorrow she may sweep? I'm also consultant led but no more appointments with her now

I know I only have 5 days to wait but I would like to start things moving

I've just not read anywhere that they do them at my stage

Thank you xx

It can’t hurt to ask! I’m honestly not sure what’s ‘allowed’. I was offered so said yes. I got so impatient from that point as I thought I’d go early! Aw I know what you mean - every day makes the difference in the late stages. I hope you get one

I could have written this myself! I'm 37+4 had a sweep 2 days ago (my consultant suggested it as I've had a favourable cervix for weeks, bishop score of 7) but unfortunately other than period type pains, loads of braxton hicks and a show nothing has happened. My waters broke early on my 2 previous babies at 32 and 35 weeks so this pregnancy feels like it's lasting forever and I've a 2 and 3 year old to run around after... I'm over being pregnant! I also have been experiencing timeable braxton hicks since 26 or so weeks which I also had on previous pregnancies so I've been on progesterone suppositories and niphedipine but stopped those 2 weeks ago.
Its worth asking your midwife if she'll do one or if she won't (which is possible as most places won't do one until 40 weeks unless there is a medical reason for induction sooner) you could ask to speak with the consultant and request one from them? I completely understand how you feel, it's not easy at all! 😣 Hope your baby comes soon!

Sorry just saw that you're being induced anyway at 38 week... I would definitely push for a sweep before to give you the opportunity to go naturally 🤞

MummaT84 · 22/04/2021 15:54

@Travellingmotherhood thank you so much for your advice.
The induction is because she's very big and I had two previous large babies and awful deliveries

Will push for sweep tomo 🙏

I've had braxtons for weeks and I'm just so done ✔️

Let me know how it goes if things develop xx

@MummaT84 can i ask how large your previous babies were?

MummaT84 · 22/04/2021 19:23

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE first one 15 years ago 9lb 10z shoulder distortion and mega assisted delivery- vontous and forceps. 11days over. 36 hour labour 🥵
2nd baby 8lb 7oz one day early. Quick labour and birth but complications to me afterwards 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

Midwife wouldn't do a sweep as she said it's too early

Did you ask if you could get one at all before induction?

MummaT84 · 24/04/2021 13:23

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE she wouldn't do it as unless my consultant had written it up in notes which she hadn't. Was examined at the hospital and midwife sent me up at bp was high and they put me on the monitor where I was contracting every 4 mins. Only 1cm dilated 😩 oh well few days to go 😬
