(I am waiting for an appointment from my GP.)

I am 6 weeks pregnant today, yesterday I had some brown spotting and today more brown plus some pink. (Not full red blood)
This is my first pregnancy and I am quite frankly terrified this is bad news.... has anyone experienced the same?

Thank you xx

Hi there so sorry you're going through this, it's such a worry when you have bleeding. It can really go either way to be honest, sometimes bleeding is fine other times not.

I had bleeding at 5-7 weeks last year & it ended in miscarriage. I'm currently 9+3 & have had red/pink/brown bleeding on a number of occasions but scans have shown a healthy foetus with a strong heartbeat.

Hopefully for you it will be nothing to worry about. I don't know what the EPU service is like where you are, here I can just refer myself. But you could always ask your GP to refer you for an early scan. Have you had any pain? x

I haven't had any pain no, just brown and some pinkish blood when I wipe. Wouldn't say it's anything bright red.

It's so worrying! When did you have your scans with this baba? I'm considering booking in for an early private scan as no contact with a midwife or anything yet.

And thank you so much for taking the time to reply I really appriciate it x

I did yes and turned out fine.
is there a lot? Just when you wipe? Fill a pad?

mumjustmum · 20/04/2021 18:24

I didn't bleed at all with my first, but bled on and off (heavily) with my twins from 5 weeks right up to labour.
I didn't wait for my GP when I was 5 weeks and bleeding, I called the hospitals 'Early pregnancy assessment unit' and booked a scan for the same day. Fully expected miscarriage due to no bleeding with my first, all fine - twins.

Give a call to your local hospital early pregnancy assessment unit, or maternity unit for advice and see if you can book a scan, explain you are bleeding.

mumjustmum · 20/04/2021 18:25

Sorry, should also have said, they will ask you about level of bleeding - so, can you fill a pad in an hour etc

JackJack84 · 20/04/2021 18:27

I had a scan at EPU at 6 weeks after some pain & bleeding. I'd already booked a private scan for the following week which I kept as my partner wanted to be there, I measured 8+2 at that one. Then I had another scan at EPU on Sunday just gone as I had more bleeding & loss of symptoms. I was convinced I wasn't pregnant anymore but I was pleasantly surprised & relived to see little bean wriggling around!

It's such a stressful time, there's so much uncertainty & given I've had 2 losses before I always just assume bleeding is bad news unfortunately. I'm trying just to relax & enjoy this pregnancy now. Every day I just think 'well this is the most pregnant I have ever been so that's good!' Grin

That's so lovely! I hope you have no more concerns crop up and you can enjoy. I think I will book a private scan for next week, I will see how I go over the next few days.xx

Yes, google early pregnancy assessment unit at your local hospital/s, or your local city.
If struggling, ring the maternity unit and ask for the number.
I hope all ends up okay xx

@sleepysoozy Thank you, I will be keeping everything crossed for you! x

sleepysoozy · 21/04/2021 11:05

Just a little update. My GP didn't seem too concerned but wants to know immediately if I bleed enough to fill a pad or get cramps. At the moment I just had odd sensations no cramping.

They have booked me for an early scan next Monday (seems so far away!!!)

Thanks again for all your responses 🙂

Loads more bleeding than that over weeks and weeks and still led to two healthy babies.
It’s not necessarily bad news yet. First trimester bleeding is really common but nobody tells you.

chesirecat99 · 21/04/2021 13:15

Yep. The baby is 22 now Smile

Flowers hope all is fine.

More blood and its red tonight. Cannot get hold of the doctors surgery or the early pregnancy unit. 😫 still only when I wipe but feel an aching dread.

Some private scan places can offer internal scans, something to consider. Thinking of you Flowers

1992EM · 21/04/2021 17:38

I had spotting at 6 + 6 weeks . It was only when I wiped and I got a scan at the EPU 5 days later. I am now 13 weeks and all fine at 12 week scan. The midwife said it can be old blood and often they can't find the source of the bleed. Sometimes it can be a cyst that is causing it. Hopefully you can get hold of EPU and get a scan for reassurance. I know exactly how you feel and it is terrifying . I just wanted to let you know that it doesn't always mean the worst . If you can get a private scan you might be worthwhile taking that as EPU often can't fit you in on that day . Take care ❤

chesirecat99 · 21/04/2021 17:53

Flowers and a handhold.

Try not to worry and have a restful evening. 25% of women bleed during the first trimester.

The EPU will probably be closed now. If you can't get hold of your GP, you can always call 111 for advice.

sleepysoozy · 21/04/2021 18:34

Thank you everyone. Unfortunately the bleeding is worse and I'm getting cramps. I did a clearblue pregnancy test and it says I am not pregnant. There in words.
It looks like baby may be gone 😥

I've messaged my gp to get in touch again.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply. I appriciate every kind word and piece of advice I really do. X

I'm so sorry, @sleepysoozy Flowers

Take care of yourself.

If you have very heavy bleeding (more than 1 pad in an hour), severe pain, pain in your shoulder, one-sided pain, feel faint or are sick, you should go to A&E.

There are lots of people here who can offer you an ear if you feel like talking.
