Hi.. I’ve been terrifying myself reading google posts for the past 24 hour so I thought I’d jump on here for some advice. I found out I was pregnant last Sunday morning.. I’m 14 week and 3 days now. I was still having periods and didn’t really have any symptoms, I’ve been drinking heavily throughout being pregnant not knowing and now I’m terrified, I literally had a bottle of wine plus some beers the night before finding out, now over the past 3 days I’ve had really really bad cramps, that feel like trapped wind or minor contractions.. (abit like braxton hicks but I’ll be too early for that I think) and I’m scared somethings wrong. Any advice will be really appreciated x

Have you had any scans or blood tests?

If you had no idea then it can’t be helped, I’d just be completely honest with midwife/consultant and go from there

Speak with your midwife. They will be able to give you the best advice.

Please don't panic, this happens many, many more times than you would think. It may be that it is only really very extreme sustained drinking throughout a pregnancy that causes severe issues (the research is not definitive). Take very good care of yourself from now on (start with folic acid etc.) and do speak to your midwife etc.

Whether its a wanted pregnancy that you definitely want to continue with or whether you need to think about your choices, I think you need to speak to your GP and midwife and ask for their really frank advice about the risks and possible outcomes. Good luck with things and you didn't know, it's not your fault.

Thanks lovely, I have rang the hospital and they’re getting me in for a scan later to make sure everything’s okay ! X

I got pregnant in Vegas. I was drinking heavily whilst there. It's far more common than you realize. I had a perfectly healthy baby. The odds are HUGELY stacked in your favour. Good luck.

@Gracebx firstly I’m jealous that you’ve sailed through your first trimester not knowing which means you haven’t had much symptoms. Do you think now that you’re aware that you’re pregnant you’re reading into every little cramp and twinge that before you were maybe none the wiser about? I ask because I know it can be a worry when you’re pregnant as you read into each ache and pain. A lot of people don’t know they are pregnant for many months, even more than you and everything turns out okay. Hopefully you’ll be one of those and hope your scan can provide you with reassurance of that x

I'm sure everything will be fine. Don't be too hard on yourself, you didn't know. Congratulations

mariebaby3 · 20/04/2021 09:59

I imagine so many people go through this, please don't worry :) You've done the right thing by flagging it and arranging the scan to put your mind at ease. I was drinking and smoking weed almost every night before I found out I was pregnant with my 1st (I was 20 and she was unplanned) - i felt awful but everything was absolutely fine. Hope everything goes well for you at the scan! xx

The best thing you can do is be totally upfront with the midwife/doctor about the situation and take it from there Thanks

Gracebx · 20/04/2021 10:54

Thank you so much everyone I’ll keep you posted when I’ve been to the hospital later.. thank you all xxxxxx
