10 week scan - concern

Hi all,

So we had a private NIPT test completed on Saturday due to age.. the sonographer said all looked as expected during the scan.. however when I came away and looked at the videos and pictures again, I saw something that looked “odd” and certainly not something I’d seen on any other 10 week scan images/videos I’d seen before.. I measured 10 + 3. Where I thought the umbilical cord would be there was almost a tree/broccoli looking thing where I would expect the normal umbilical cord to be.. and now I’m panicking I did email them asking if they could let me know what it is/put my mind at rest.. but haven’t had a response yet.. wondered if anyone had seen the same? You can see it on the first two images not on the 3rd

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that's just a hand or a foot popping up in view? Hence why you can't see it in the 3rd photo as they've moved 🙂
Congratulations 💐

Private scan clinics can’t tell you anything that would be wrong as they aren’t essentially trained in that.
She may have just been putting abit more pressure on it and picked something up behind it etc. If it was something prominent it would show on all the scan pics

I’m not sure anyone could look at this and tell you anything unless they’re a trained sonographer. I would say if they didn’t raise any issues, then accept that and look at your baby in wonder! Don’t try and find issues; I understand it’s an anxious time.

It could just be a hand and a foot meeting in the middle, but I can’t distinguish much in any scan photos, ever!

Congratulations!

To add, if you’re at a private scan and they notice something unusual, then they refer you to nhs ASAP. I know someone who experienced this.

Not an expert, but I'm pretty sure that's a hand or foot..? x

Ironytheoppositeofwrinkly · 19/04/2021 14:27

It's your baby grabbing their foot OP 🤣

RetroCatapillar · 19/04/2021 14:37

Thanks for your replies! It’s definitely not a hand or foot I wish I could upload a video (I thought I could/had) it’s from that you can see what I’m talking about in addition to the hands and feet (which truly are incredible!!)

Appreciate you wouldn’t be able to say if anything was wrong as such more just if you’d seen something similar before.. but it’s not at all clear from those pics only the video 🙈 whoops! Thanks anyway though

This isn't true.

Somewhere like Window to the Womb will not. But if you go to a more medical based place they will offer the full equivalent to an NHS scan, including NIPT and anatomy checking. I had this type of scan at 12 weeks on Saturday after bleeding and was informed they would do all the checks the NHS do plus more and asked if there were any checks I'd like them not to do.

In my first pregnancy the sonographer at a gender scan picked up a potential anatomy issue and told me. They wrote up a report for me to give to my midwife to get the issue looked into.

I imagine if the scan was for NIPT then they would have done a full check (everything they can do at the gestation) and told you if anything looked wrong.

Fingers crossed for you, I'd try not to worry too much Daffodil

Peaplant20 · 19/04/2021 15:30

Oh my goodness I realllllllly wouldn’t worry! The scan images are really weird and blurry you get all sorts of strange shapes. The TRAINED sonographer would tell you you need to speak to your midwife or whoever if they saw something wrong and it’s really unhelpful of people on here to tell you they wouldn’t tell you if something is wrong. They may not be able to tell you if you baby has something minor wrong but if anything major is wrong they will tell you to get it looked at by the NHS. I wouldn’t have thought there was anything strange at all looking at that image, you’ve been staring at it too long! It’s just where all the hands and feet are crossing over or it’s blurring in with the background.

@Peaplant20 thank you ❤️

My bad I didn’t see the NIPT I thought it was private as in window to the womb, baby bond etc.
Apologies

RetroCatapillar · 20/04/2021 14:44

Called and asked... it’s the cord insert and apparently looks completely normal Smile
