I'm slightly worried about the black bit under the baby from the scan. All the other scans I have seen have never been like this? Anyone had a scan like this?

What did the sonographer say about it?

uhtredsonofuhtred1 · 18/04/2021 20:00

Why are you worried about it? To me, I've looked at it and just assumed baby is floating around in the water sac (black bits).

Looks fine, black is fluid.
Baby is floating in fluid and not resting against the uterine wall, its just more obvious in your scan than some others. At this gestation they flip and move around incredibly easily.

lamptastic · 18/04/2021 20:07

It is difficult to analyse a static ultrasound image, since ultrasounds are dynamic scans where you look at structures in real time. The extended back space may just be movement artefact.

I'm confident if there was a problem they would have told you.

@sunshine650 Nothing at all to worry about, your little one just looks like they arnt quite touching the side of your uterus for the photo. If you saw a moving imagine sometimes they jump or float around. Just had a quick looks at my DD scan and my current baby and both have black shadows under them too Smile

My baby was face down in the placenta. No adorable scan pics for me!

Botanica · 18/04/2021 21:16

Are you worried about the nuchal fold? They should have measured that for you and told you the reading.

Any other concerns would have been flagged to you. I would try and relax if nothing further was mentioned.

sunshine650 · 18/04/2021 22:36

It's my first pregnancy and I'm still trying to learn with all of this. The sonograph lady didn't talk that much, I wasn't to sure if she would be aloud to say something or not. I know this sounds silly🤦🏻‍♀️

@sunshine650 no not silly at all! In fact you will find many more things to feel concerned about I'm sure as that's pregnancy unfortunately but as you progress it gets easier to relax especially when you start feeling baby move Smile x

All scan pics are different. In my 20w you can really clearly see the umbilical cord and I googled and never found another photo like it x
