Question about aspirin

Hi ladies, this is my 4th pregnancy after 3 previous early losses. This time round I decided to take low dose aspirin from ovulation (after doing lots of research and the ok my my doctor) I will be 12 weeks tomorrow. I haven't had any testing yet and was advised it wouldn't hurt for me to take aspirin. This is the furthest I've ever got, had a scan at 10 weeks and everything was perfect. At my first midwife appointment I told her about the aspirin which she was fine with, how ever she's told me to stop taking it at 12 weeks.
Of course I will take her advice, I'm just terrified to stop taking it as I 100% believe it's what got me this far. I'm just curious if anyone knows why they advise to stop at 12 weeks? As I know some women take it throughout pregnancy or even told to start taking it at 12 weeks.

Presumably because the risk for miscarriage is lower after 12 weeks? However, do you know what the reason for your miscarriages was? Depending on the reason, it could be beneficial to continue taking aspirin after 12 weeks. Personally, I would not stop taking it - but that's because I took aspirin from the moment I got a positive test until 36 weeks in 2 pregnancies, no issues whatsoever. So I wouldn't think twice about taking it.
I would definitely get a second opinion if I were you.

I've been told to take 150mg Asprin daily from 12 weeks to precedent pre eclampsia.

As a pp said I think I would continue taking it. Like you I started myself on aspirin from ovulation after 4 miscarriages and am now 18 weeks and fully put it down to the aspirin.

My midwife and consultant are both in agreement that I should remain on it until we’ll into my third trimester, and will only stop in time for a c section.

My consultant said had I not already been on it, he’d have put me on it anyway. It really does no harm, but may very well be helping.

I took aspirin throughout because there were notches on my scan. Was fine, no problems and no preeclampsia

MoscowMuse · 17/04/2021 16:25

At my 12 week scan, i was prescribed 150mg of asprin every bedtime to prevent pre-eclampsia so def worth telling them you have been taking it. They may well prescribe it and you can keep taking it. I think have to take until 32 or 36 weeks and then stop.

I took 75mg aspirin for the full length of my pregnancy due to IUGR in a previous pregnancy

Thank you all! I have already told my midwife that I'm taking it and she was the one who said to stop at 12 weeks. I have my dating scan at 13 weeks so il continue talking it till then and maybe ask again at that appointment. I'm worried about stopping it because it I truly believe it's what's got me this far. If it won't do me any harm to continue taking it into my third trimester then I will 🤞🏼 x

Yes I took it all the way through from ovulation to Labour after 4 miscarriages and 1 pregnancy that ended at 26 weeks due to severe pre eclamspia. Went on to have 4 healthy pregnancies so it worked well for me! 😊
