Sweep at 37 weeks - anyone experienced this?

I'm 37+3 and having a sweep this weekend before my induction on Weds. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced a sweep this early and whether or not it was successful?

I'm quite worried about the induction so it would be great is the sweep got things going first but I've never heard of them being done this early so not sure how successful it'll be? It's my first baby and I'll be 37+3 or 37+4 when it's done

I had a sweep at 38+0 because I was showing some contractions on the trace and they wanted to see what was happening. I was 1cm dilated at the time. For me, that set things in motion, and my waters broke spectacularly a few hours later but nothing much happened, ending up in drip, epidural, forceps and trauma. For me it was not a good option. And not having that sweep may well have had a better outcome.

BUT, you say you’re due induction next week? In that case I’d probably go for it. It would give you information about bishops score etc, and likelihood that Labour could be spontaneous in this time period. Ultimately, induction has the potential to be quite messy, but I think if you’re going into it willingly and with your eyes open then outcomes are likely to be better, at the very least mentally. I wasn’t fully on board with the concept of induction and so my body spent a lot of time fighting the drip.

If an induction were inevitable, I would probably want a sweep first. Good luck! Just because birth goes badly for some people doesn’t mean it will for you...
