Bleeding at 12+6: Everywhere's closed

I'm 12+6 and started bleeding last night.

At first when I wiped, then enough to cover a single pantie liner, then it became just when I wiped again. Over night it appears to have completely stopped,

I haven't had any cramps, I think I still feel sick (I have HG), but I've not had any other bleeding in this or my previously pregnancy.

The early pregnancy unit, day assessment unit, and my doctors surgery are all closed for the weekend. Triage won't see me because I'm less than 14weeks. I can't get booked in for a private scan anywhere, and don't feel it warrants A&E if the bleeding has now stopped.

What do I do? Just wait it out until Monday? I'm an absolute state.

Hi OP, didn't want to read and run. Have you tried 111 and asked for an appointment at the early pregnancy unit? Sometimes you can self refer, depending on area, but in my experience appointments are rarely same day. If I'm honest I would want peace of mind too and waiting seems a lifetime. I don't rate private highstreet scans, if something isn't looking good they tend to refer you back to the NHS. When I was bleeding I reminded myself that at that stage there was absolutely nothing I could do, it's just a case of knowing. I found peace with the fact that it wasn't within my control and the outcome would just be whatever it would be. I appreciate this may not sound helpful but it helped me to relax a bit before my early scans.

Posted too soon. I'm thinking of you Flowers, lots of love being sent your way.

I would ring 111 and see what they advise. Sending big hugs. Things like this can be very common Daffodil

Where are you based @worrybutterfly? Near London?

worrybutterfly · 17/04/2021 07:32

Sussex, I've managed to get an appointment in Oxted for this morning. It's not a standard pregnancy scanning place, it's in a medical centre, so was about 3times the cost of Window to the Womb.

Called back triage and they said to either go to A&E or call the midwife on Monday for an appointment at EPU.

I have my late 12 week scan on Monday so going to EPU is likely to take longer than that. But I've just not got it in me to wait until Monday and then find out in a waiting room full of happy expectant parents.

Hi WorryButterfly,

I’m really sorry to hear things are worrying you a bit. I can see you’ve booked a private appointment but does your hospital have a gynaelogical ward with an emergency assessment unit? My local hospital directs us to call there when EPU is closed, at least they may be able to give you some guidance. They are sometimes called “GATU”s (gynaecological assessment triage unit) xx

Opinion4321 · 17/04/2021 08:54

@worrybutterfly I hope the scan goes well for you this morning. When I was in a similar position to you I googled all the EPUs in the area as some are open on weekends. I ended up going to Darrent Valley (near Bluewater) and they were wonderful. That's not too far from Oxted if you feel you need more help.

@worrybutterfly I had bleeding at 10 weeks, and even though it was mid-week EPU still wouldn’t see me until it had been going on three days and I was absolutely at my wits end. Everything was fine with baby, turned out I had a polyp on my cervix, which has just been left. So could easily be something completely innocent, but of course get checked out as soon as you’re able to x

worrybutterfly · 17/04/2021 11:58

Just had my scan.

Baby looks fine, no obvious reason for the bleeding but could be from the cyst that was highlighted by EPU at my first scan but is no longer there.

Polyp on my cervix would made sense. As I only seem to be bleeding when and immediately after I've pooed.

The blood is definitely from my vagina but the bleeding only happens after straining

@worrybutterfly hope you're ok! I've had 2 episodes of bleeding after straining on the toilet too, I think it's normal but still very worrying. My midwife said it's something to do with the blood vessels being more sensitive or something like that x

MintGreenLife · 17/04/2021 23:36

@worrybutterfly glad the scan went well! Could also be cervix ectropion, which sounds scary but is common and shouldn’t be a worry. I had to go colposcopy at 12 weeks after the polyp was found which was fine and was told they would just leave it until after baby is born x
