Early pregnancy bleeding

Hi all, First time posting on here, hoping you can share your experiences (good or bad). Started what I thought was my period on Tuesday but stayed as light spotting. Thursday morning clear blue digital came back as positive (1-2 weeks). Went to the doc same dag and HCG came back as 50 which is low. I am still spotting (now day 5). I have taken pregnancy tests every day and getting slightly darker each day but not significantly. Initially I thought it was implantation bleeding but surely it can’t go on for so long. Going back for HCG levels again this morning. Anyone had similar experiences and what was your outcome? I don’t have my hopes up, had mmc in Feb at 10 weeks.

Hi @SuzB123 I seem to be in the same situation. I had spotting for a few days and thought it was the start of my period but then it stopped. I took a test and it was positive (last Saturday) and had no more spotting. Yesterday when I wiped I had some spotting, I went to the doctors and they gave me a blood test and internal scan to check in case it may be an ectopic pregnancy. They couldn't see anything on the scan I think I'm between 4-5 weeks and they said you can only see around 5 weeks so either it's too early or I've miscarried. My hgc levels came back at 700 so I have to go back in Sunday morning to have another test and see if they are still rising or have dropped. I've been worried since testing about a loss (this is my first pregnancy) so when I got the spotting yesterday I was pretty devastated, now I'm just checking all the time to see what will be there! I'm so wishing that I have no more spotting today and my levels have risen tomorrow but I'm feeling very hopeful. Fingers crossed for your hgc levels this morning! How many weeks do you think you are?

That's I'm not feeling very hopeful! I wish I could be feeling more hopeful!! Isn't it all just such a worrying time!

I had full on period style bleeding that lasted for 9 days in total when I was 4 weeks pregnant. It wasn’t spotting but heavy bleeding for two days that tailed off to medium flow for a few days and then light spotting for a few more days. At the time I thought it was my actual period and was disappointed, then on day 4 I just felt weird so I did a pregnancy test and it was positive so I thought I was miscarrying as it was similar to the miscarriage I’d had 8 weeks prior. Two weeks later, I was still getting strong positives and I’m now almost 20 weeks pregnant. The consultant I had specialised in early pregnancy bleeding and she told me heavy implantation bleeding was a lot more common than people think. In many cases, people think they’ve had a period and that their dates are out.

So you never know, things could work out! Maybe take another clear blue digital in a few days to see if it’s changed from 1-2 to 2-3. Wishing you all the best!

@MayDay27 thanks for replying! shame I know it is worrying, it’s difficult not to obsess over it but it really is just a waiting game to see what happens! I am around 4 weeks. Will let you know what my hcg levels come back as. Keep me updated on yours as well

@Squibble84 thanks for sharing your story, does give me hope! My doctor also does not seem too worried about the bleeding and says she thinks it is a long implantation bleed. I guess it is a sort of a defense mechanism after my missed miscarriage at 10 weeks which was a huge disappointment for me. Did you have any more bleeding after the initial 9 days?

No I’ve had no more bleeding or spotting since. Good luck to you, I hope you have a positive outcome!

Update- hcg came back at 152 so has tripled in 48 hours. Doc said she is happy with that but to let her know if spotting still ongoing for the next 7 days

@SuzB123 that’s reassuring news! Hopefully the spotting will tail off soon. It might be worth seeing if they can get you in for an early scan to check things are progressing - you’ll probably be eligible for that anyway because of your previous mmc.

I’m in the exact same situation but my levels aren’t doubling as they should.. at 30dpo it was 132 32dpo 179 & 34dpo 252 has anybody ever experienced this before?

I had bleeding around week 5, for about a week. Had an internal scan at week 5 and nothing seen. Went back a week
Later and could see a sac & yolk, went back another 2 weeks later and baby could be seen. I'm now 17 weeks pregnant x

@SuzB123 that's great news!! I tested again today and think it's got lighter, it was just a cheap one and I have been drinking a lot of soft drinks this afternoon since we went to the pub but I don't think it's a good sign! Can I ask what your spotting is like? I had reddish spotting yesterday when I wiped but then nothing for the rest of the day, today I've had brownish looking but very faint.

@MayDay27 it has varied between bright red, pink and brown. Before I got my positive test was convinced my period was starting. But it hasn’t been heavy enough to need a pad, it’s mainly just when I wipe.

This is a real personal question but can anyone tell me what there bleeding was like as in actually period like blood that is on the tissue or like a tiny brownish piece they could move off the tissue? I had something that was so tiny it was smaller than a pen dot but I'm terrified. I'm 4.3 weeks and my period was due last Wednesday so I don't think it could be implantation bleeding. It was the oddest thing. It was nothing like a period or like any of my other miscarriages.

My bleeding so far has been watery reddish drops but not very much just when I wiped and then a brownish discharge with really small stringy bits. This is my first pregnancy so I don't know much at all about it. I'm really hoping it's not a miscarriage but I'm thinking it probably is. Can I ask if you miscarriages what the bleeding was like?

@MayDay27 I've had two and the first was a missed miscarriage so I didn't start bleeding until I knew the baby had pasted but that was just like a period. No small dots just red blood and the second started as small pieces of discharge with a brownish colour and then got to be dark red large stripes when I wiped. Once I got to that stage it was hours until I passed the baby.
I have everything crossed for you that this is just a bit of early bleeding and that you go on to have a healthy pregnancy and baby ❤️

Can anyone help, I have spoke to EPAC in the week as I had some brown discharge and they said it was no cause for concern but not it's gone a little yellow which I red could be infection. I'll be ringing again tomorrow but I wondered if anyone else had this and it was just the brown petering off?

Hi guys, I know there is nothing anyone on here can do but I guess I’m just looking for reassurance or similar story’s. I’m about 4-5 weeks pregnant with my second baby. Clear blue weeks test shows 2-3 weeks and a bright blue line on the non digital. I had no idea I was pregnant until 2 days ago, I thought I was on my period as I have been lightly bleeding and spotting for around 2 weeks but started feeling sick and other symptoms so took some tests. I’m over the moon as we have been trying for around 8 months but I’m now worried as last night I started lightly bleeding again but bright red. I went to bed so that I wasn’t worrying all night and woke up to no fresh blood just brown spotting. Can this be normal or could this be the start of a miscarriage? No strong pains as such just light/dull aches and pains that I had with my first. I have been spotting lightly bleeding on and off for around 2 weeks but still testing clearly positive. Thank you in advance for any responses ☺️

@Lou201o it's hard to know which isn't what you want to hear. This happened to me on all my pregnancy's, 3 ending in miscarriage and one ended in my son. You should ring your local hospital and they will help you with someone in the early pregnancy department. I have everything crossed for you ❤️
