Hi everyone!

I was 4 weeks yesterday since my last period started and have tested positive. I got my bloods done yesterday to check HCG levels due to 2 previous miscarriages..

So my levels were 74 at exactly 4 weeks, I know it's in the very big number bracket but just wondered if it's normal to be at the lower end of the spectrum and have a healthy pregnancy?

Bump! Anyone 😩

Are you having another blood test? From what I’ve seen the numbers can really vary, but it’s what they do over a 48 hour period which indicates what’s happening.

CornishGem1975 · 16/04/2021 16:13

I don't think the actual number matters so much as the doubling over a 48 hour period.

At 5 weeks + 3 days, my levels were 15,000 which was astronomical. I don't think they are 'normally' anywhere near this.

As the poster above has said, it's the repeat test that indicates whats happening.

PinkCookie11 · 16/04/2021 16:20

My clinic always said anything over 50 for a first blood draw.
As pp it’s the doubling you want.

Sadie95 · 16/04/2021 18:25

Thank you for replying! I'm getting them done every 48hrs for the next week, so tomorrow is my next lot. So am I looking for them to be 148 or more?

My first was 53 then few days later 853 and 48 hours later 2522

Yep! Really good your getting them done for the next week! Good luck!
Sadie95 · 19/04/2021 14:04

Thank you to everyone who replied, my HCG almost tripled to 221.. had some more done today so will find out tomorrow if they have risen again! Keeping everything crossed that this is a healthy pregnancy 🤞🏻

Great news!

@CornishGem1975 I think mine may be similar, if my ovulation date based on opks is correct I got my peak on the 31/03. On the 16th my hcg levels were 800, 18th 2400 and 22nd 14,000. I'm really worrying, the doctors think I must be further along than I think although the last scan showed only a gestational sac so preparing for miscarriage. I just wondered how your pregnancy is going

My pregnancy is now a toddler! Even with my high HCG levels, everything was pretty much bang on dates - through my dating scan I think my due date got pulled forward about 5 days or so?

What would be your gestation at your last scan? I had a scan at 5+2 which was when I had the levels of almost 15,000 and there was literally nothing to be seen, just a scratch of evidence of pregnancy to the sonographer. I had another scan at 7+2 and there was a sac and a tiny flickering heartbeart.

MayDay27 · 26/04/2021 10:38

@CornishGem1975 thanks so much for your reply! I'm so confused at the moment. My periods are regular but I always seem to ovulate late day 20/21 after using opks to test and getting my peak on day 20. The doctors have only ever used the first day of my last period to age though so have been a week ahead of me. I went in because of spotting at what I thought was 4 + 1 but what they noted as 5+2 that's when my bloods were 800 and a scan showed nothing. I went back two days later for more bloods that came back as 2400. They scanned me again on the 22nd at what I would say was 5 weeks but they'd think more 6 and the scan showed a gestational sac of 7mm but nothing inside and my bloods came back as 14,000. They've told me that with hcg levels that high they should definitely see more so it's likely not viable. I have another scan on Thursday

CornishGem1975 · 26/04/2021 10:46

Hmm if you've been doing OPKs, you're likely to be more accurate than they are, so keep the faith @MayDay27. If your dates are as you say, rather than what they think then I'd say what you are seeing is about right for the gestation. Did they mention if there was a yolk sac? If you were 5 weeks it would be unlikely that would show yet. It can be really hard for even the sonographers to see anything concrete that early on. Fingers crossed for your scan on Thursday as that will hopefully show more. The fact that your levels are going up is a really good sign.

As an aside, it drives me MAD that they insist on using first day of last period - it doesn't work for everyone - didn't for me in my first pregnancy when I'd had a 65 day cycle! but they wouldn't listen to me, just had to get to dating scan to prove them wrong!

MayDay27 · 26/04/2021 10:54

Gosh yeah a 65 day cycle would be hard to judge! No yolk sac that's why they aren't very optimistic they said for the level of hcg I should show a yolk sac by now. I'm just confused because either I am further along in which case I've ovulated before my lh surge or maybe implanted really really early! Or my lh levels are just exceptionally high. I'm trying not to think about it too much but it's all I'm thinking about!

CornishGem1975 · 26/04/2021 11:08

There was no yolk sac at my 5+2 scan and that's when my levels were near 15,000. So if they were saying you are 6 weeks and further along than you thought (in their eyes) then that sounds about the same as mine.

Bless you, I know what it's like. I was scanned because I had a massive bleed (it was huge, no cause ever found) and I just spent weeks Googling everything.

MayDay27 · 26/04/2021 11:13

@CornishGem1975 that's really good to hear, although I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much as it's been so up and down I don't think I can take much more! Did they ever say anything to you about you high hcg levels? I've been analysing the charts and it seems 7000 is the highest for 5 weeks. Thanks so much for replying to me it's just good to be able to talk to someone!

CornishGem1975 · 26/04/2021 11:16

@MayDay27 Nope, they never mentioned it at all, and yet I was freaking out about it, thinking it meant something was wrong or I was having triplets!

Really hope you get a good outcome on Thursday. Do come back and let us know how you get on, or DM me if you want to chat x

MayDay27 · 26/04/2021 11:51

@CornishGem1975 thank you so much, I just want the next few days to go quickly. I'm driving myself insane searching about molar pregnancy's. It's good to know that high hcg isn't always an issue though!

MayDay27 · 29/04/2021 10:34

@CornishGem1975 just to let you know they scanned me today and they saw a yolk sac fetal pole and heartbeat! They said it all looks good for 5+ weeks! I can’t believe it. I’m still nervous but so happy

CornishGem1975 · 29/04/2021 11:12

@MayDay27 Oh my god, that's amazing. I am so pleased for you!

It sounds like you were bang on with your dates - honestly think so much stress could be alleviated if they actually listened to us - we know our bodies.

It's hard to relax but everything sounds good for you, so just enjoy it and wait for the sickness to kick in 🤣 Any moment now...
