Aspirin ?

Epu mentioned aspirin to me but is that something I buy myself or get prescribed? What's the difference in aspirin and baby aspirin if there is any? Also is the dosage 81mg? Thanks but confused

I would get a proper dose from the EPU and exact directions of when to take, along with the reason for it? Its used in early pregnancy if you've had testing to show you have a clotting disorder, but generally not used till after 12 weeks, if its for pre-clampsia. From what little I know.

It can also be for older mums or higher BMI, but without knowing the reasons why they recommended it, or when to start, you need to get your specialists advice on this.

Ok great thank you. I've been Reddit recurrent miscarriages but Havnt seen anyone yet just epu. I just assumed aspirin would help prevent miscarriage as that what she mentioned along with progesterone to me. I'll defo ring them x

Sorry to hear about the recurrent MC. I only say to check, because I suspect I was advised to start it too early. An IVF consultant mentioned aspirin in passing at my inital consult. There was no mention of why, or when to start.

I spoke to the IVF nurse to confirm I was pregnant. I asked about aspirin, she apparently checked and advised on the dose and to start there and then- at 4 weeks. Unfortunately, I MC for the 3rd time with that pregnancy. When I spoke to a different consultant later on, they were suprised I was already on aspirin, as I had no confirmed clotting disorder, and said I should not have started until 12 weeks! Histology/autopsy confirmed the MC was from a genetic disorder, and not from taking aspirin, but I had several weeks of panic thinking that me taking the aspirin had caused the MC.

It's the 75mg dose and it you usually buy it yourself - you can get it from any pharmacy and Home Bargains sells 75mg tablets for about 80p per box. Double check that EPU definitely want you to take it and when from when though

Just phoned epu. They said about the aspirin that they would have to see if it's a viable pregnancy before starting any treatment but the last I spoke to the other day told me she would start me on the pessaries straight away because I never make it passed 5 weeks so I'm just confused x
