Sweep success stories?

I am pregnant with my second about to be overdue - with my first I couldn’t get a sweep as his head never engaged! I’m hoping to have a sweep this week - any experiences/success stories to share?

With my first sweep, I had no joy. The second was done by a very matronly-type midwife, all business and no so gentle. As soon as I had it done, I had period type pains all day and then went into Labour about 6 am the following morning. However I was 8 days over so it had to happen some time

@LemonLemonLemon thank you - I have heard they’re not that reliable! I guess they just come when they’re ready!

With my first they didn't work.
With my 2nd I went in to be induced, she checked me over and said I didn't need it and a good sweep would be enough. He was born 5 hours later with only 1 hour labour.

Yeah there’s no real way of telling if they work, but when you’re overdue and you just want it out, it’s worth a shot haha.

The midwives told me that the less gentle they are, the more effective it is.

Thanks @QforCucumber! I had to be induced with my first and feels like that’s the way I’m going again! I’ll hope for a quick labour

I had 5 sweeps with my 2nd; 3 were unsuccessful - I had a doctor perform my 4th, and I lost my bloody show the next morning, certainly wasn't gentle. Then when I went to the MBC, I was only 3cm, so I had a rather rough stretch and sweep from the midwife so they could admit me, and within half an hour I was 5cm and an hour after that my daughter was born.
I'd say they're 50/50

Yes with my second I had a sweep at 11am. Gave birth at home on the bathroom floor before 5pm that same day after a labour so short the midwife didn't even make it!

Yep worked a treat for me, had a sweep at my midwife appointment on my due date at midday, DD was born at 8.50pm that eve!
