Heart shaped uterus

Had my 12 week scan a few weeks ago and they told me I had a bicornuate or heart shaped uterus. This isn't my first pregnancy or ultrasound, I've had scans for babies and an ovarian cyst before so I'm not sure how or why or if my uterus could have changed shaped. Has anyone else got any experience or knowledge? Am worried.

There's a huge range of heart shapes uteruses so it's possible that yours is so mild that it wasn't worth mentioning in previous scans. I only realised I had one after a new gynecologist mentioned it in passing, and I'd had various scans before that. Bicornuate uteruses are quite common and mild versions do not affect pregnancy. I think it's only a problem if you have two "horns" and that would definitely have been mentioned in a scan. I did bring it up with my consultant and he wasn't fazed at all since mine is/was very mild. Had no problems with pregnancy. I think with mild types, the dip from the heart part simply gets pushed outwards as the baby gets bigger so it's no different to a normal uterus.
