Clear Blue test not progressing

Hi there .. I have just gone through ivf treatment and had my BFP on the 7th. (15 days post transfer) According to dates I should be 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant .. I stupidly did a clear blue today and it shows 1-2 weeks. I tested early and on the 1st April I had a clear blue showing 1-2 weeks .. it’s now 13 days later and am totally freaking out as showing the same result ... I have a scan booked in a week today x

They're notoriously unreliable and you shouldn't use pregnancy tests to date pregnancy. It's positive so you're pregnant. Good luck for the scan x

They accurately predicted all 5 of my miscarriages so I do think they are accurate up to about 6 weeks which is when hcg gets so high it can throw the tests off a bit. I've also had blood tests before in conjunction with the tests and they've always generally followed the different clearblue levels (1-2. 2-3,3+)

All I would say is that it's possible your levels are really high or you could be someone for
Whom the test just doesn't work for but I would speak to your clinic and see if you can get a blood test?

hi @Furmummy - I had a very similar worry, I couldn't get the digital to jump from 2-3 to 3+ but after looking on the net they are very unreliable, I made it to my 7-week scan and had a heart beat (also an IVF pregnancy).

If you can get bloods done, I would but again that can be another thing to worry about - I can't say that your stress level will ease until you get to that scan and I wouldn't advise an earlier one as that can give you more worry as a heart beat may not be seen until week 7.

Everything crossed for you.

@ivfbeenbusy How do you mean, they predicted your MC? Did you see a pattern on the tests that indicated something was wrong?

Sorry for your losses, 5 MC is just horrendous to go through.

@TreeRoad thanks

Yes each time it took "too long" for clearblue to progress through the levels. Clearblue will show a BFP 1-2 weeks at a hcg level of 15 (in the U.K. but sometimes it's reported as 25). If you double roughly every 2 days then you can approximately work out which day when you should reach a level of 153 which is 2-3 weeks and the same principle for reaching 2753 (If I remember rightly!) for 3+ . In my miscarriages I didn't reach the next level soon enough to indicate a doubling of hcg every 2 days

When I was also having blood tests at the same time as testing then generally my blood level was about 25% higher than my urine level - I know this because I tested a lot and the morning I got a 3+ on one of my non viable pregnancies my blood level was a little over 3000. Althing the day I got a 2-3 weeks with my twins my blood level was 159 so very accurate to the clearblue test

The only time they didn't predict non viability was my 2 ectopics but they were pretty rare in that had normal hcg levels and heartbeats before they ruptured (taking my tubes with them 😢)

It's obviously not an exact science and it won't be like that for everyone but for me clearblue was very accurate

That’s not sounding good then ..

@Furmummy

That's great! 🥳 must be such a weight off your mind.

Furmummy · 23/04/2021 16:45

Sadly it’s not progressed so think something in the clear blue test result ... referred to EPAU next week for management x
