I'm just looking for some positive induced birth stories. During my first pregnancy I was given a very early due date at my first scan and I questioned it as it didn't match up to my dates (it was a planned and long awaited pregnancy) but they said it was right so I trusted them. My due date passed by and I got to 11 days "overdue" and I was told I would need to be induced. I explained my concerns that I thought my original due date was wrong but the consultant wasn't very understanding and said it was non-negotiable. I was stressed, pressured, not understood and I hesitantly agreed to be induced. Labour started and it was 16 hours of hell. All a blur really but I felt scared, out of control and it was completely chaotic. In the end the midwife said baby isn't ready for this so they offered a forcep delivery as my only other option. I was cut twice and they yanked him out with quite a force. I was left with very painful injuries, stitches that kept pulling and bleeding, completely incontinent and my poor beautiful baby was bruised and cut all over his head. Mentally I was traumatised and I was kept in hospital for a week. It took me a long time to recover. Second birth was the polar opposite, I went into labour naturally and I delivered without any pain relief within an hour in fact I still had my coat on as I delivered 5 minutes after I arrived at the hospital! I went home on the same day with no problems. I'm now 36 weeks pregnant with my third and I've just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I have been told I'll have consultant led care and I'll need to be induced on my due date if not before depending on how well I can control my diabetes. I'm petrified and I'm gutted I won't get the natural birth I hoped for. I'm scared of being induced as it went so horribly wrong last time. I'm just reaching out for some advice and some positive experiences so I can rest my anxieties abit. Anyone who has been in the same situation as me, I'd love to hear from you. Thank you for reading!

Oh wow, looks like you’ve had two extremes of experience. My experience of induction at 36w sort of in-between what you describe, so perhaps not useful to you. But is it possible you could go back and find out more about some of the decisions that happened during your first birth, to either put you more at ease or give you more information and feel more in control? Sorry you’re feeling like this and hope you have a good birth Flowers

Hi I had an emergency induction with my DD. I was diagnosed with obstetric cholestasis and was induced at 39 weeks. I was expecting the worst but it was fine. I was given the pressary at 8pm Friday night. I went to sleep, woke up with mild contractions. Waters broke (Hollywood style) at 11;30 Saturday morning. Was in active labour by 4pm. Got in the birthing pool at 9:30pm pushed out DD at 10:30 pm in the pool with gas and air.

I'm booked to be induced again with my second in a weeks time ( I will be 39 weeks again) so I'm hoping for a similar experience.

I really hope that you get the birth you want X x

I was induced at 36 weeks and gave birth naturally and with minimal issues. However, this isn’t going to help you. I’d suggest you talk to the consultant/ doctor and work out a plan that makes you feel in control.

I was induced with both of my babies and had absolutely amazing births. No injuries or tearing and home the next day with the first and same day with the second.

I was induced with my 2nd. My first baby was an epic days long experience with a lot of intervention. I was induced with my second because I was very overdue and I’m old! I was really worried about a repeat of the first baby and googling inductions was really unhelpful.

It was fine!

Induced in the morning, light contractions from 10pm which I could sleep through. Hospital in the morning for monitoring and baby born a few hours later with no interventions and much quicker than I expected.

I wish you all the best, it’s really had not to worry after a difficult experience but I hope you get some comfort from the responses here.
