Polyp? Scared I have cervical cancer

Hi,

I'm 19 weeks and been having brown discharge for a few days and was told to go to my gynaecological department for a check. The doctor found what she thinks is a polyp and booked me in for a colposcopy.

I'm really worried I have cervical cancer! Has anyone else gone through this and been ok? I wasn't told much about polyps so thinking the worse

Thanks in advance

I’m not pregnant but have been treated for polyps three times now.

Please try not to worry, they are incredibly common and usually harmless. Someone with more relevant experience will be along soon but in the meantime, virtual reassuring hug. Extremely unlikely to be anything of concern Smile

I had one (although not during pregnancy) - had it removed, they did a biopsy and it all came back clear.

Fingers crossed it’ll be the same for you !

I’ve had one, quick removal, no cancer. I think they are fairly common, sometimes just not even found and rarely cancerous x

Hi OP,
All these things are just standard procedure and although it must be really worrying for you, try not to worry too much. It’s almost certain that it’s not serious. Polyps are very common and I know several people who’ve had them.
Take care and enjoy your pregnancy and try not to worry too much Flowers

@Worriedandanxious2558 I was found to have a polyp at 10 weeks after I had spotting. I’m 24 weeks now and no spotting since. Polyps are benign growths. I think something like 1-2 in 1,000 are cancerous. Are you being seen by colposcopy? I had mine checked at 12 weeks and confirmed benign x

MintGreenLife · 11/04/2021 23:07

@Worriedandanxious2558 sorry you said you’re seeing colposcopy. I was really worried about it when i was told I had a polyp, more for what it meant regarding pregnancy than anything else. At colposcopy I was told nothing to worry about, won’t effect pregnancy and will be checked on again after to see if it’s still there/needs to be removed. I had a follow up letter to say it was ‘of benign appearance’. Like I said above, highly unlikely to be cancerous x

I've had a polyp removed. My GP said that it was so rarely cancers that she'd never ever known it to happen.

Thanks everyone, I have my colposcopy tomorrow afternoon so hopefully everything's ok. Trying not to worry but easier said than done!
