Gender scan at 16 weeks?

bertieboo88 · 10/04/2021 12:10

I've booked for a gender scan next week when I'll be 16 weeks exactly as I'm just really impatient.
Has anyone done the same thing and could they tell the sex at that point?

They can usually tell the sex from 16 weeks

We had one at 16+4wk, they got a clear view between the legs and some lovely clear pictures (dating scan ones were a bit blury, active baby). The sonographer at my anomaly scan agreed that we're having a girl.

Thank you both Smile I'll be 16 weeks to the day when I go for mine as DP can only come with me on a weekend and I go up a week each Saturday. Hopefully they'll be able to tell and it won't be a waste of time! x

Also.. do you need a full bladder?

I had gender scan at exactly 16 weeks with my son and it was very clear he was a boy.
I didn't have a full bladder but made sure if had a bit to drink beforehand

eensyweensySpider · 10/04/2021 12:23

I had mine at 16 weeks exactly, and a very obvious boy. I remember dashing to the toilet afterwards but really not sure do it was because they requested a full bladder or not 🙄

PinkCookie11 · 10/04/2021 12:27

I had mine at also exactly 16 weeks and was very clear to be a boy!
I just drank a pint of water before hand, you don’t really need to at this stage but I did anyway haha

bertieboo88 · 10/04/2021 12:29

Thanks everyone, that's made me feel better as I was worried I'd maybe been a bit hasty booking at 16 weeks exactly!! It's about a 45 min drive to the scanning place so I think I'll just sip water in the car, I don't really fancy an uncomfortable drive! x

My DD had one at 15 weeks with twins and it was correct.

Chelyanne · 10/04/2021 12:36

You should drink around a pint an hour before your scan and not empty bladder until after the scan.
I didn't find this too uncomfortable as they were on time. I did the same for my anomaly scan but they were running 30 minutes late and the sonographer commented on how full my bladder was. Thankfully she asked me to empty it part way through the scan to encourage baby to move for some measurements.

3babylady · 10/04/2021 12:37

I had mine at 15+2 & was very clear but yes full bladder definitely helps, eating around an hour before to to try and get an active baby, good luck! Xx

I have had a 16 week scan with both of my pregnancies - one at exactly 16 weeks and one at 15+4. Both were really clear, 1 girl and 1 boy. I think I went with a full bladder for both but both times was told to empty it so they could get a better view but the sonographer said it was better to do it that way round as easy to go for a wee, but would take ages to fill your bladder up if they needed it fuller

Gemmaemilyx · 10/04/2021 12:50

Hiya! This was 16+3 and got a very good view. Confirmed at 20 week scan! Xx

Gemmaemilyx · 10/04/2021 12:53

Apologises wouldn't add the pic!

Did one too and sex was clear at 16w.
Never had to have full bladder though. I think at this stage the uterus has already moved up. But could be wronf

Worriesome · 10/04/2021 17:02

@bertieboo88 I had mines at 16+1 and yes they could definitely tell x
